Don R. Wasson Rites Are Held Here Saturday

The tragic passing of Don R. Wasson, 45, has been keenly felt by the whole of
Antlers and Southeast Oklahoma, which occurred Friday morning May 12, 1960.

Services were held at the First Methodist Church of Antlers, Saturday afternoon at 6
o'clock. Interment was in the City Cemetery under the direction of Coffey Funeral Home.

Don R. Wasson was an upright gentleman, a prominent and outstanding business man
in every respect was well liked and loved by his fellow citizens and held high in esteem
by all who knew him. He was employed as general accountant at the Alvin J. Morris
Sales Barn and it was within one hundred yards of the sales barn that he met with almost
sudden death when the company's coupe car he was driving collided with a semi-trailer
truck driven by Euel Lee Rice, 30, of Atoka, Friday, May 12th at 8:30 a.m. He
succumbed immediately after being taken to the Pushmataha Clinic by ambulance.

Mr. Wasson, a native son of Antlers, was born May 20, 1904. He graduated from the
Antlers High School in 1922, attended Oklahoma University in Norman and was a
member of Sigma Chi fraternity. In 1932 he married Miss Ida Callahan of Tulsa. From
1941 to 1944 he was Executive Secretary of Tulsa Kiwanis Club; after this he was
business manager of Holland Hall School in Tulsa. He, together with his family, moved
back to Antlers and made it their home for the past two and a half years where he was
District Agent for the Farmers' Insurance Company, maintaining an office on North High
Street, being assisted by Mrs. Wasson and also acting as general accountant for the Alvin
J. Morris Sales Barn. He was a member of the Methodist Church and just recently
appointed to the Board of Stewards at their fourth quarterly conference.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Ida Wasson, two sons, Clark R. and Don R. Jr., his
mother, Mrs. Clark Wasson of Antlers [the former Nannie E. Byrd]; one brother, Byrd
Wasson, Fort Smith, Ark.; three sisters, Mrs. Nan Walters, Oklahoma City, Miss Ruth
Wasson and Mrs. Chloe Moyer of Antlers, other relatives and a host of "friends".

Pallbearers were Jack G. Long, Corry Stephenson, Bill Akard, Ed Jackson, Roy
Akard, Bill Silverman, Alvin J. Morris and Dr. Robert W. Akin.

Among those out of town attending the funeral were Mrs. Wasson's father, O. M.
Callahan, her six sisters and their families, Mr. And Mrs. Charles Calhoun; Mrs. Joyce
Beaman and Jimmy; Mr. and Mrs. William Dean and children, Jayne and Milo; Mr. and
Mrs. A. L. Pogue and sons, Arthur Lee and Douglas, and Mrs. Douglas Pogue, all of
Tulsa; Mr. Wasson's niece Mrs. Mary Douglas, Durant; a brother-in-law, Glen Walters,
Oklahoma City, brother Byrd of Ft. Smith, Ark., Mr. and Mrs. Domer Scaramucci, Calif.;
Mr. and Mrs. Roger Plummer, Bixby; Mr. and Mrs. S. W. Hogan and Mrs. Grace
Harmon, Okemah; Mrs. R. F. Wilson, Mrs. Mark Floyd and Mr. and Mrs. Buddy
Herndon, Valliant; Mr. and Mrs. Carlos Webb, Mrs. Frank Siffut and Miss Mary
Margaret John, Hugo; Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Gossett, Durant; Mrs. Ed Winston and son
Neil, and Justice Earl Welch, Oklahoma City.

On April 24th this year, Mr. Wasson's 80 year old distinguished father, Clark Wasson,
one of Antler's oldest pioneers, passed away in a Paris, Texas hospital and was buried in
the City Cemetery April 27th and until the time of his retirement he had been president of
the First National Bank of Antlers.
