Sobol High School - 1919
submitted by: John W Ragsdale
Note from submitter:
From left, sixth person, girl in dark dress, is Iva Spears (Ragsdale). From her, seventh person is Eva Spears (Land).
Everett and Opal Spears (Crouch) would have been in this picture also; but I can't id them. Opal may be the girl on the edge of the damaged area.
The Spears family was related to the Lawless and Aylor Families who lived in Sobol also.

Elvin's schoolteacher, Miss Lillie Belle Gilbert. No date was
given, nor a school.
Elvin Fleming attended school in the
Rattan area; however, it is unknown which school. He was still in school in 1910 at the age of 9 but had quit before 1920.
Any information would be greatly appreciated. |

Jewell Fleming Childers said that Taylor and May Fleming let the school teachers board at their house.
Miss Lillie Belle Gilbert was one of the teachers that boarded with them. The Fleming family liked Miss Gilbert so much that they named their youngest son, Morris Gilbert Fleming, who was born in March of 1918, after Miss Gilbert.
Lilly Belle Gilbert's son said that his mother taught school in Belzoni for either one or two years. She moved to El Paso, TX in 1918 immediately after teaching at Belzoni,

Alvin Stafford
( adopted later - Mitchell) was my father. Clara and Anne
Stafford are great aunts.
When I looked at the Pushmataha web
site I found the Millers were teachers.
Do you know who Mrs Helen was?
When were the photos taken?
