Town of Cheyenne NW of 8-14-23
The townsite of Cheyenne was laid out by U.S. Government surveyors as the county seat for "F" County. It was opened for white settlement on 19 April 1892. By nightfall of that day, the new town had a population of 50.
The post office was established on April 11, 1892. This is eight days before the Cheyenne-Arapaho Land Run which populated this area. It is the oldest post office in the county.

The town was incorporated after an election on 15 December 1908. The present courthouse is the third one, having been finished in September 1986.
The town is now home to the Washita Battlefield National Historic Site.
