Butner Cemetery

Seminole County, Oklahoma

PLEASE TAKE A MOMENT TO READ this message. There are two Butner Cemeteries about one mile apart. This one sits in Seminole County and the other will be in Hughes County. The Hughes County cemetery will be online soon. Please keep this in mind as you search and check back with the Hughes County cemetery again if you do not find the name you are searching for here.

From the intersection of SH 9 and SH 56, about 5 miles north of Wewoka, go 2.3 miles north. The cemetery sits right on the edge of the highway. There is no sign there but it is very visible from the road. On a large oak tree in the cemetery, I found a note reading, "Please send donations to Butner Cemetery Fund, c/o Betty Jean Dorsett, Rt. 2 Box 202, Wewoka, Ok. 74884, phone 405-257-5820,
Thank you."

The Myers Service and Myers Funeral Home, the same business, mentioned here, may be found in Wewoka. I think you will find that many of these will have been handled by this same funeral home. For such a small cemetery, there are many military stones here. There are two stones from the same unit.

I, Vickie Neill Taylor, canvassed this cemetery Apr. 20, 1999.
