DECEMBER 2, 1982

Services for Mrs.. Edia Agness ANDERSON of Vian were held Tuesday, Nov. 30, at 2 p.m. in the Vian Baptist Church with the Rev. Charles Rozell officiating. Burial followed in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Vian under the direction of the Agent Funeral Home in Sallisaw. Mrs.. ANDERSON was born to Martin Luther THOMASON and Emma Mary WALLACE THOMASON on Jan. 26, 1920, in Vian. She died at Sallisaw on Saturday, Nov. 27, at the age of 62. A homemaker, Mrs.. ANDERSON and her husband, William D. ANDERSON, were married May 25, 1935, in Vian. He survives. Other survivors include one son, Charles; one sister, Myrtle; two brothers, Wesley and Douglas; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services for Mrs. Alice MORGAN of Vian are being held Thursday, Dec. 2, at 2 p.m. in the Round Mountain Church near Vian with the Rev. Laymon Garrison officiating. Burial is in the Round Mountain Cemetery under the direction of the Huckleberry Funeral Home in Webbers Falls. Mrs.. MORGAN was born to Ed and Lela PAYNE on Nov. 29, 1907, in Oklahoma. She died at Sequoyah Memorial Hospital on Monday, Nov. 29, at the age of 75. Survivors include her husband John of the home; and her mother Lela PAYNE.

Services for Dwight Oscar NEWBERRY of Sallisaw were held Tuesday, Nov. 30, at 2 p.m. in the Agent Chapel in Sallisaw, with the Rev. Eldridge L. Miller officiating. Interment followed in the Sallisaw City Cemetery under the direction of the Agent Funeral Home. Mr. NEWBERRY was born to Franklin NEWBERRY and Rosa Evelina JONES NEWBERRY on Jan. 31, 1904, in Farmer City, Ill. He died in Sallisaw on Sunday, Nov. 28, at the age of 78. He and his wife, the former Velma Clotrill COFFMAN, were married Nov. 26, 1929, in Hannibal, Mo. She survives. Other survivors include one son, Maurice; two sisters, Mildred, and Fontella; two brothers and Hobart; one granddaughter; and one great-grandchild.

Services for Isaac L. POLECAT of Nicut were held Wednesday, Dec. 1, at 2 p.m. in the Belfonte Church with the Rev. Lawrence Eagle and the Rev. Martin Cochrum officiating. Burial followed in the Belfonte Cemetery under the direction of the Wheeler Funeral Home in Sallisaw. Mr. POLECAT was born to Mr. and Mrs.. Walter POLECAT on Feb.. 2, 1896, in Oklahoma Indian Territory. He died at Sequoyah Memorial Hospital on Monday, Nov. 29, at the age of 86. Survivors include one daughter, Emma; four step-daughters, Nancy, Virgie, Mable and Betsy; four step-sons, Eugene, George, Arthur,  and George; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many step-grandchildren.

Services for Mathew Franklin WHITE SR., of LaJunta, Colo, were held Tuesday, Nov. 30, at 10 a.m. in the Peacock Frye Almont Memorial Chapel in LaJunta with the Rev. Eddie Nye officiating. Mr. WHITE died in LaJunta on Friday, Nov. 26, at the age of 88. Mr. WHITE was born to Orvin WHITE and Mary HUBBLE WHITE on dec. 31, 1893, in Alma, Ark. He and his wife, the former Louella JOHNSON, were married Aug. 2, 1914, in Short. Mrs.. WHITE preceded her husband in death. Survivors include two sons, Laurence and Mathew Franklin Jr.; one daughter, Muriel; and one sister, Dora.

December 7, 1982

Services for Jason Ray LUNA of Sallisaw were held Friday, Dec. 5 at 1 p.m. in the Agent Funeral Home Chapel in Sallisaw with the Rev. Billy Ray Jackson officiating. Graveside services and burial will be at 1 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 8, in the Memorial Oaks Cemetery in Houston, Texas. The child was born to Paul LUNA Jr. and Jackie Lee PARRISH LUNA on July 26, 1979, in Fort Smith, Ark. He died Wednesday, Dec. 3, at the age of 16 months as the result of a fire at the family residence. Survivors include the parents, Paul and Jackie LUNA; one sister, Misty; the maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs.. Bud PARRISH; the paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs.. Paul LUNA Sr.; the maternal great-grandmother, Mrs.. Mabel MORGAN; and the paternal great-grandmother, Mrs.. Betty MORRIS.

Services for Paul Rodney LUNA III of Sallisaw were held Friday, Dec. 5, at 1 p.m. in the Agent Funeral Home Chapel in Sallisaw with the Rev. Billy Ray Jackson officiating. Graveside services and burial will be at 1 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 8, in the Memorial Oaks Cemetery in Houston, Texas. The child was born to Paul LUNA Jr. and Jackie Lee PARRISH LUNA on March 7, 1977, in Houston. He died Wednesday, Dec. 3, at the age of three as the result of a fire at the family residence. Survivors include the parents, Paul and Jackie LUNA; one sister, Misty; the maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Bud PARRISH; the paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs.. Paul LUNA Sr.; the maternal great-grandmother, Mrs.. Mabel MORGAN; and the paternal great-grandmother, Mrs.. Betty MORRS.

Services for Alicene (Alice) Inez WHITWORTH of Sallisaw were held Friday, Dec. 5, at 10 a.m. in the Agent Funeral Home Chapel in Sallisaw with the Rev. Ted Eppler officiating. Burial was in the Sallisaw City Cemetery under the direction of the Agent Funeral Home. Mrs.. WHITWORTH was born to William H. WILEY and Maggie SMITH WILEY on March 2, 1924, in Sallisaw. She died Wednesday, Dec. 3, at the age of 56. Survivors include the husband, Virgil Ewing WHITWORTH, of the home; two sons, Lloyd Dale and Glen A.; five grandchildren; three brothers, Watie, Billy and Frank; and one sister, Shannon.

December 16, 1982

Clarence Lee MATTHEWS, born at Sallisaw Jan. 10, 1909, died at Doctors General Hospital in Oklahoma City on Friday, Dec. 3, after a brief illness. Burial was in Oklahoma City. Mr. MATTHEWS was the son of the late Dave and Carrie (MONROE) MATTHEWS. He is survived by his wife, Ann; three sons, Mike; Gary and Phillip; two sisters, Ruby and Gladys; and a cousin, Mrs.. Faye. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother. Perry.

Services for Mrs.. Mary Jane RIGGS of Muldrow are being held Saturday, Dec. 18, at 2 p.m. in the Mineral Springs Freewill Baptist Church with the Rev. M.C. Parrish and the Rev. Raymond Chronister officiating. Interment is in the Blackjack Cemetery, northwest of Muldrow, under the direction of the Agent Funeral Home in Sallisaw. Mrs.. RIGGS was born to Watie Aleck SHAMBLIN and Lou Emma MOTON SHAMBLIN on Dec. 29, 1911, in Muldrow. She died at Fort Smith, Ark., on Wednesday, Dec. 15, at the age of 70. Mrs. RIGGS and her husband, Raymond were married Nov. 11, 1933, in the Maple community. He survives. Other survivors include five daughters, Ruby, Linda, Ann, Sandra and Vicky; four sons, Billy Ray , J.W. RIGGS , Gilbert, and Rickey; three sisters, Minnie, Willa Mae and Irene; three brothers, Fred, Vernie and Doc Henry; 36 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Graveside services for Carl Edward WALTERMIRE, 51, of Sallisaw were held Thursday, Dec. 9, at 2 p.m. in the Buffington Cemetery with the Rev. Preston Collins officiating. Mr. WALTERMIRE died Tuesday, Dec. 7, as a result of an auto accident. He was born Aug. 19, 1931, to Oscar WALTERMIRE and Ester ALLEN WALTERMIRE. Survivors include two daughters, Sharla and Karla; seven sons, Michael, Carl, David, Ricky, Gary, Robert and Shawn, all of Sallisaw; three sisters, Lola, Caludia Jean and Gusta Faye; and three brothers, Oscar, Wayne and Jackie

December 19, 1982

William "Bill" CHANDLER, 68, of Muldrow died Thursday, Dec. 16, at a Fort Smith, Ark., hospital. Services are scheduled for Monday, Dec. 20, at 2 p.m. in the Cottonwood Baptist Church with the Rev. Jerry Copeland officiating. Burial will follow in the Cottonwood Cemetery under the direction of the Wheeler Funeral Home in Sallisaw. Mr. CHANDLER was born Aug. 22, 1914, in Sequoyah County. Survivors include the wife, Elsie, of the home; four daughters, Wilma Pauline, Earlene, Verna Mae, and Maxine; three sons, James, Jerry, and Claudie; two sisters, Doris and Ruby; four brothers, Charles, Hays "Doodle", Henry and Thomas; 13 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Services for Mrs.. Josie Mae HOUSTON of Vian were held Wednesday, Dec. 15, at 2 p.m. in the Box Church with the Rev. Bob Kirk officiating. Burial was in the Box Cemetery under the direction of the Huckleberry Funeral Home in Webbers Falls. Mrs.. HOUSTON, 72, died Monday at her home. She was born March 17, 1910, in Binger. Survivors include her husband Bill of the home; one son, Thomas; three daughters, Claudie Jo, Barbara, and Lena; and five grandchildren.

Services for Luther Ellis LONDON of Roland were held Friday, Dec. 17, at 2 p.m. in the Roland First Baptist Church with the Rev. Joe Taylor officiating. Burial followed in the Roland City Cemetery under the direction of the Agent Funeral Hone. Mr. LONDON was born to William Edward LONDON Sr. and Lula Mae TIDWELL LONDON on Jan. 7, 1905, in Nicut, Sequoyah District, Indian Territory. He died at Fort Smith, Ark., on Wednesday, Dec. 15, at the age of 77. Mr. LONDON and his wife, the former Blenna FLANAGAN, were married Feb. 22, 1936, in Short. She preceded her husband in death on March 25, 1978. Survivors include four sisters, Minnie Mae, Verna Eunice, Bertha and Jane L.; one foster son, Kenneth; and two grandchildren.

O.M. ORENDORFF, died Dec. 15, at Sequoyah Memorial Hospital after an extended illness. Services were held Friday, Dec. 17, at 2 p.m. in the Wheeler Funeral Home chapel. The Rev. Frank Tepe and the Rev. Preston Collins officiated at the services. Burial was in the Sallisaw City Cemetery. He was born Jan. 31, 1898, in Fayetteville, Ark., the son of Mr. and Mrs.. James ORENDORFF. He married Orel WHITLOCK Feb. 16, 1918. She preceded him in death in 1959.On Jan. 27, 1972, he married Trixie M. BILLINGSLY. He died at the age of 84. Survivors include his wife, Trixie, of the home; one son, C.M.; one step-daughter, Gail; four sisters, Dorothy, Grace, Nora, and Beth; three brothers, Lee, Max and Fred, three grandsons, four great-grandchildren and one step-granddaughter.

December 23, 1982

Services for Billy Don GIPSON of Muldrow were held Wednesday, Dec. 22, at 2 p.m. in the Agent Chapel in Muldrow with the Rev. Kenneth Linn and the Rev. Otis Free officiating. Burial followed in the Blackjack Cemetery, northwest of Muldrow, under the direction of the Agent Funeral Home in Sallisaw. Mr. GIPSON was born to Tillman GIPSON and Jewel Bell SMITH GIPSON on April 26, 1938, in Muldrow. He died at Sparks Regional Medical Center in Fort Smith, Ark., on Monday, Dec. 20, at the age of 44. . He and his wife, the former Daneal FREEMAN, were married Nov. 17, 1977, in Fort Smith, Ark. She survives. Other survivors include one daughter, Kimberly Daneal; one son, Donald Cole; the mother, Jewel B. GIPSON; one brother, William A. "Bill" .

Services for Charles Edward ROSE of Muldrow were held Tuesday, Dec. 21, at 2 p.m. in the Dora Ark., Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Tommy Treat and the Rev. Bobby Mason officiating. Burial was in the Roland Cemetery under the direction of the Wheeler Funeral Home in Sallisaw. Mr. ROSE was born Jan. 20, 1925, in Sallisaw and died at a Fort Smith, Ark., hospital on Sunday, Dec. 19, at the age of 56. Survivors include the wife Frances of the home; two daughters, Connie and Filicia; two sons, Charles and Kenneth; three step-daughters, Donna, Debbie and Dianne; one step-son, Allen; one brother, Fred; four sisters, Faye, Joan, Mattie and Donna; two step-sisters, Ora and Wanda; 11 grandchildren; and five step-grandchildren.

Mrs.. Kay Lois HARVEY SNIDER, 37, of Muldrow died Tuesday, Dec. 21, at the Washington County Regional Medical Center. Services are Thursday, Dec. 23, at 10 a.m. in the First Baptist Church in Muldrow with the Rev. Phil Whitten officiating. Interment follows in the Blackjack Cemetery near Muldrow under the direction of the Agent Funeral Home in Sallisaw. Mrs.. SNIDER was born June 23, 1945, to Ray A. and Audrey HARVEY in Yuma, Ariz. Survivors include the mother, Audrey A. HARVEY; two daughters, Pamela Kay and Mary Audra; one son, Jimmy Ray; and one brother, Mitchell.

J. B. SPEARS, of Chandler, Ariz., formerly of Sallisaw, died Friday, Dec. 10, at his home. Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Thresa; two sons, Jerry and J.B. Jr.; one daughter, Roberta; seven grandchildren; five brothers; and six sisters. Services were held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 14, at the Chandler Church of Christ under the direction of the Bueler Mortuary in Chandler. Attending the services were a brother, E.E., and a sister, Pearl.

December 30, 1982

Kenneth Robert BALDWIN, 18, of Joplin, Mo., formerly of Vian, died Saturday, Dec. 25, at a Joplin hospital. Services were held Tuesday Dec. 28, at 2 p.m. in the Vian School Auditorium with the Rev. Calvin Carlile officiating. Services in Joplin were held Monday, Dec. 27, at 3 p.m. at the Mason-Woodard Chapel. Burial was in the Garden of Memories in Vian under the direction of the Wheeler Funeral Home in Sallisaw. Mr. BALDWIN was born Aug. 27, 1964, to Everett BALDWIN and Mary Ellen BALDWIN in Tahlequah. Survivors include the mother, Mary Ellen CUPP ; the father, Everett BALDWIN ; two sisters, Debra and Carmen; and three brothers, Everett Jr., Terry and Ronald.

Services for James Blaine BRYANT of Muldrow were held Friday, Dec. 24, at 11 a.m. in the Agent Chapel in Sallisaw with the Rev. Harold Garner officiating. Burial followed in the Maple Cemetery, northeast of Sallisaw, under the direction of the Agent Funeral Home. Mr. BRYANT was born July 11, 1903, to Samuel W. BRYANT and Hattie E. HAYES BRYANT in the Long community, Sequoyah District, Indian Territory. He died in Fort Smith, Ark., on Wednesday, Dec. 22 at the age of 79. He and his wife, the former Zula Nan KING, were married Jan. 28, 1926, in Long. She survives. Other survivors include two daughters, Betty and Colleen; two sisters, Floy, and Vera; four grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Services for Nathaniel Henry COLEMAN of Nicut, near Muldrow, were held Thursday, Dec. 23, at 2 p.m. in the Belfonte Church. Burial was in the Belfonte Cemetery under the direction of the Wheeler Funeral Home in Sallisaw. Born in Sequoyah County on March 25, 1914, to Joseph COLEMAN and Lucy SEABOLT COLEMAN. Mr. COLEMAN died at a Tahlequah Hospital on Tuesday, Dec. 21, at the age of 68. Survivors include one niece, Lucille, seven great-nieces and many other relatives.

Services for Nora L. JENKINS of Muldrow were held Monday, Dec. 27, at 2 p.m. in the Muldrow First Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Hoover Bailey officiating. Burial followed in the Blackjack Cemetery under the direction of the Wheeler Funeral Home in Sallisaw. Mrs.. JENKINS was born March 25, 1899, to Coleman A. GIPSON and Maude HURST GIPSON in Arkansas. She died on Saturday, Dec. 25, at the age of 83. Survivors include three daughters, Grace, Lucille, and Mary; two sons, Bill and Richard; two sisters, Lennie and Edna; two brothers, Erman and Andy; 24 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Services for Horace Dudley MILLS, 71, of Sallisaw are being held Thursday, Dec. 30, at 2 p.m. in the New Hope Baptist Church, northeast of Sallisaw. Burial is in the Akins Cemetery. The Rev. C.W. Drye will officiate at the services which are under the direction of the Agent Funeral Home in Sallisaw. Mr. MILLS was born to William Benton MILLS and Laura Lovie DAILEY MILLS on April 2, 1911, in Tuscumbia, Ala. He died at Fort Smith, Ark., on Sunday, Dec. 26, at the age of 71. He and his wife, the former Marino ROBLEDO, were married Jan. 14, 1939, in Los Angeles, Claif. She survives. Other survivors include one daughter, Bette; two sons, Dudley B., and Ronald L.; one sister, Betty; one brother, Claud; and five grandchildren.

Mrs.. Takie ROSS, 86, of Gore died Monday, Dec. 27, in Tahlequah. Services will be held Friday, Dec. 31, at the White Chapel Church near Gore with the Rev. Albert Terrell and the Rev. Raymond Cochran officiating. Burial follows in the Greenleaf Cemetery, southwest of Tahlequah, under the direction of the Agent Funeral Home in Sallisaw. Mrs.. ROSS was born to Dave and Rhoda DOWNING on March 17, 1896, in Terisida, Mayes District, Indian Territory. Survivors include three daughters, Lucinda, Dorothy and Jennie; one son, Stanley; 35 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside services for Terry Lynn SHELLY, the infant son of Bonnie Jean EMERSON SHELLY of Sallisaw, were held Tuesday, Dec. 21, at 11 a.m. in the Akins Cemetery. The Rev. Terry Davis officiated at the services which were under the directions of the Agent Funeral Home in Sallisaw. The child was born Friday, Dec. 17, in Fort Smith, Ark., and died Sunday, Dec. 19, at Little Rock, Ark. Survivors include the mother; one sister, Misty Lynn SHELLY of the home; one brother, Billy Leon; the maternal grandmother, Carolyn SEXTON; the maternal great-grandmother, Eva Mae MILLER; and the maternal great-grandparents, William T. SEXTON, and Grace Marie SEXTON.

Services for Roy James WEBBER of Tulsa were held Friday, Nov. 5, at 10 a.m. in Moore's Eastlawn Chapel in Tulsa with the Rev. Watie Hendrix of Gans officiating. Burial was at the Webber Cemetery in Dutch Mills, Ark., under the direction of Moore's Eastlawn. Mr. WEBBER was born April 24, 1958, at San Jose, Calif. He died Monday, Nov. 1, at the Methodist Hospital in Somerville, Tenn., as the result of a tractor-trailer accident. Survivors include the parents, Mr. and Mrs.. Loyd J. WEBBER of Rolling Hills; two brothers Donald Louis and Larry Dell; three sisters, Linda Darlene, Sandra Lee and Pamela Kay; the maternal grandmother, Mrs.. Euel WOODWARD of Tulsa; the paternal grandmother, Mrs.. Lizzie WEBBER; and the paternal great-grandmother, Mrs.. Doshia HENDRIX.

Services for Mrs.. Martha Lee WOODY of Sallisaw were held Monday, Dec. 27, at 2 p.m. in the Agent Chapel in Sallisaw with the Rev. O.J. Looper officiating. Burial was in the Akins Cemetery, northeast of Sallisaw, under the direction of the Agent Funeral Home. Mrs.. WOODY was born to Sam STANCELL on May 17, 1909, in Muskogee. She died in Sallisaw on Saturday, Dec. 25, at the age of 73. Survivors include one daughter, Ernestine; three grandchildren,; and one sister, Edna.
