Services for Otis Andrew EDWARDS of Nicut were held Friday, Jan. 7, at 2 p.m. in the Wheeler Chapel with the Rev. A. Martin officiating. Burial was in the Long Cemetery under the direction of the Wheeler Funeral Home. Mr. EDWARDS was born to Andrew Jackson EDWARDS and Sally E. MARSHALL EDWARDS on May 21, 1917, in Nicut. He died at his home on Tuesday, Jan. 4, at the age of 65. Survivors include the wife, Alice of the home; two daughters, Modell and Anita; two sons, Don and Ronald; one brother, Albert; five sisters, Bon, Lucy, Grace, Clarious, and Mary; an uncle, Bush; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Ida Belle POWELL, 95, of Gans died Thursday, Jan. 6, at Sequoyah Memorial Hospital in Sallisaw. Services will be held Monday, Jan. 10, at 2 p.m. in the First Assembly of God Church in Gans with the Rev. Dewayne Houston and the Rev. Terry Davis officiating. Burial will follow in the Mitchell Cemetery, east of Sallisaw, under the direction of the Agent Funeral Home. Mrs. POWELL was born to James "Jim" SANDLIN and Mary Elizabeth CHEEK SANDLIN on Nov. 15, 1887, in the Redland community, Sequoyah District, Indian Territory. Survivors include four daughters, Arbie, Elsie and Sally, and Eva Jo; five sons, Home and Elmo of Gans, Jack of Sallisaw, Willard of Mabton, Wash., and Quinton of Cedarville, Ark.; 29 grandchildren; 83 great-grandchildren; 30 great-great-grandchildren; one half-brother, Clifford SANDLIN of Memphis, Tenn.; and two half-sisters, Edith NOE and Margaret SANDLIN, both also of Memphis. Pallbearers will be grandsons.

January 16, 1983

Eugene N. COOK, 56, of Napa, Calif., formerly of Cookson, died Friday, Jan. 7, in Oakland, Calif., of an apparent heartattack. Mr. COOK was born in Cookson on Jan. 19, 1926, to the late George W. and Ruby COUCH COOK. He married the former Joan STRINGER on Jan. 19, 1945, in Wichita, Kan. Survivors include his wife, Joan; two sons, Derald D. and Ronald E.; one daughter, Patricia J.; two brothers, John C. and George L., both of Napa; six grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. Mr. COOK was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred RAY. Services were held Monday, Jan. 10, at 3 p.m. in Napa. Burial was in a Napa cemetery under the direction of the Treadway and Wigger Funeral Chapel.
