Jimmy Wayne BARNUM, 56, of Fort Smith, Ark., died Monday, May 29, 2000, in Fort Smith. He was born Aug. 2, 1943, in Bakersfield, Calif., to William Carvine BARNUM and Mary Leota (TIPPIN) BARNUM. He married Peggy Ruth COWAN Dec. 5, 1962, in Arvin, Calif. Survivors include his wife, Peggy R. BARNUM of the home; one daughter, Renee; three grandchildren; and four brothers, James, Donald, Billy and Gaylord. One son, Terry Allen BARNUM, preceded Mr. BARNUM in death in 1985 in Arvin, Calif. Cremation is under the direction of Agent Funeral Home in Sallisaw.

Graveside services for Nancy BUSH BEAVER, 96, of Marble City will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Bush Family Cemetery, north of Marble City, with Frankie Studie officiating. Mrs. BEAVER was born Dec. 27, 1903, in Marble City, Indian Territory, to Dave and Betty (GARVIN) BUSH. She died Tuesday, May 30, 2000, in a Sallisaw nursing home. Survivors include one sister, Haster; and three brothers, L.D., Rider and Tom. Mrs. BEAVER was preceded in death by her husband, Steve BEAVER; three sister, Sally BUSH, Maude PIGEON and Easter PIGEON; and three brothers, Sam BUSH, Ben BUSH and Robert BUSH.  Arrangements are under the direction of Mallory Funeral Home in Sallisaw.

Graveside services for Joe Ann GARCIA, 67, of Sallisaw are being held a 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Akins Cemetery, northeast of Sallisaw, with Dr. Lee Woodard officiating. Mrs. GARCIA was born Jan. 17, 1933, in Paoli, to Freeman Percy DEATON and Lillie (WALKER) DEATON. She died Monday May 29, 2000, in Sallisaw. Survivors include two sisters, Denise and Carol; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. Arrangements are under the direction of Agent Funeral Home in Sallisaw.

Funeral services for Thomas "Smokey" C. HOWELL, 58, of Sallisaw  are being held at 2  p.m. Thursday at Agent Chapel in Sallisaw. Burial is in Brent Cemetery in Sallisaw, under the direction of Agent Funeral Home in Sallisaw. Mr. HOWELL was born May 25, 1942, in Sallisaw, to Donnie Lee HOWELL and Carlie (ELLIS) HOWELL LaCROIX. He died Monday, May 29, 2000, in Sallisaw. He married Gladys Jewell BAILEY Dec. 24, 1963, in Claremore. Survivors include his wife, Gladys Jewell HOWELL of the home; two daughters and two sons-in-law, Shena and Petie and Monica and Donald; one son and daughter-in-law, Justin and Dee; one sister Katherine; one brother, Henry "Hank"; eight grandchildren; two aunts, Mabel and Pauline; one uncle, George; and his mother-in-law, Faye.

Mrs. PARKER was born Feb. 9, 1918, in the Liberty community, to Clarence Taft HENSON and Dovie (HIGGINS) HENSON. She died Monday, May 29, 2000, in Roland. Survivors include one sister, Erma; and two brothers, Warren and Sherfield. Mrs. PARKER was preceded in death by her husband, Everet G. PARKER. Mrs. PARSONS was born Nov. 21, 1922, in Russellville, Ark., to Homer and Lula (FORD) CHAMBERS. She died Tuesday, May 30, 2000, in Sallisaw. She married Earl PARSONS May 10, 1947, in Crawford County, Ark. Survivors include her husband, Earl PARSONS of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Charles; three sons, David, Junior, and Jack; one sister, Lillis; 14 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Mrs. PARSONS was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Betty HENSON; two brothers, John and Roy CHAMBERS and one sister, Berniece BORLAND.

Robert Lee "Bobby" PHILLIPS, 25, of Springdale, Ark., formerly of Acorn, Ark., died Thursday, May 25, 2000. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. May 27, 2000, at the Beasley-Wood Chapel in Mena, Ark., with Steve Glinski officiating. Burial was in Owens Chapel Cemetery in Acorn, under the direction of Beasley-Wood Funeral Home. Mr. PHILLIPS was born Dec. 20, 1974, in Mena, to Bob PHILLIPS and Becky WILHITE ZINK. Survivors include his mother, Becky WILHITE ZINK; his father Bob PHILLIPS; stepfather, Randy ZINK; one sister, Tennille; one brother, Wayman III; his grandparents, Junior and Rosalee, and Betty; aunts and uncles, Norman and Vanessa and David.

Memorial services for (Ret.) Capt. Wayne P. STEVENS, 60, of San Antonio, formerly of Sallisaw were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church in Sallisaw, with the Rev. George Gilland officiating. Mr. STEVENS was born March 20, 1940, in Homestead, Pa., to Sherman P. STEVENS and Alma F. STEVENS. He died Friday, May 26, 2000, in San Antonio. He married Barbara J. STARKS May 23, 1982, in Ft. Belvoir, Va. Survivors include his wife, Barbara STEVENS of the home; one daughter, Laura; one son, Brett; one stepdaughter, Deborah; one stepson, Robert; and three grandsons. His first wife, Elaine Jewell STEVENS, preceded Mr. STEVENS in death. Memorial services were under the direction of Agent Funeral Home in Sallisaw.

Mr. WILSON was born Aug. 28, 1930, in Marble City, to Harley and Dora (HONEYCUTT) WILSON. He died Sunday, May 28, 2000, in Fort Smith, Ark. He married Virginia DRAIN May 10, 1952, in Van Buren, Ark. She preceded him in death Jan. 13, 1995. Survivors include two daughters, Terry and Phyllis; four sons, Allan, Darrell, Bobby and David; four sisters, Carrie, Edith, Tempie and Sigrid; five brothers, Jim, Johnny, Raymond, Willard and Harley Jr.; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.  Arrangements are under the direction of Agent Funeral Home in Sallisaw.

Funeral services for Ret Sgt. Nathaniel N. COMSTOCK, 65, of Fort Smith, Ark.,  were held at 10 a.m. Friday at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Smith. Burial was in the U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith, under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home in Fort Smith. \Mr. COMSTOCK died Tuesday, May 30, 2000, at his home.  Survivors include his wife, Hazel of the home; one daughter, Eva Jean; one stepdaughter, Genia; four sons, Charles, John, Ronnie and Joey; three stepsons, Johnny, Gary and Darrell; three sisters, Pearl, Leota and twin sister, Nellie; one brother, William; and 11 grand children.

Amos EUBANKS, 63, of Van Buren, Ark., died Wednesday, May 31, 2000, in a local nursing home. Private family committal of cremains will be at Forest Park Cemetery in Fort Smith, Ark., under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren. Survivors include three sisters, Mattie, Ruth and Sue; one brother, Bud; and several cousins including Daisy, Rosemary and Pat.

Funeral services for LaVee RACHEL, 86, of Vian are being held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Shin Chapel in Russellville, Ark., with Dr. Lee Woodard officiating. Burial is in Rest Haven Memorial Park in Russellville, under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service in Russellville. Mrs. RACHEL was born July 22, 1913, in Pope County, Ark., to Garland and Nora (CLAY) TACKETT. She died Wednesday, May 31, 2000, at the Vian Nursing Home. Survivors include her husband, Vernon RACHEL; one son, Jerry; one daughter, Sandra; three sisters, Bobbie Jo, Ollie and Elsie; one half-brother, Charles; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Mr. CARDOZA was born Nov. 6, 1935, in San Luis Obispo, Calif., to John Machado CARDOZA Sr. and Hazel Juanita (KELLER) CARDOZA WALKER. He died Friday, June 2, 2000, in Sallisaw. He married Sandra Rae FORDYCE Aug. 6, 1991, in Fresno, Calif. Survivors include his wife, Sandra CARDOZA of the home; four daughters, Deanna, Holly, Tuesday, and Tommie; three sons, Dean, Shannon and Mike; eight grandchildren; one sister, Lorraine; and two brothers, Butch and Joe. She died Sunday, June 4, 2000, in Checotah. Survivors include one son, Gary Wayne; four sisters, Jeanette, Marcella, Carol and Sandra; one brother, Ricky; her mother, Hazel ; 11 nieces and nephews; and 15 great-nieces and nephews. Mrs. CARTER was preceded in death by her father, Clarence ESSMAN; and one brother, James Elbert ESSMAN.

Mrs. CORDER was born Jan. 10, 1905, in Keota, to Thomas Larkin HENDRIX and Maggie (WILLIAMS) HENDRIX. She died Thursday, June 1, 2000, in Muskogee. She married Jess CORDER March 21, 1926. He preceded her in death Nov. 7, 1998. Survivors include her children, Lark, George, Avon, Aleta, Flora Bell and Betty Jo; one sister, Addie; one brother, Charlie; 27 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Charles William "Bill" FOXX, 65, of Sallisaw will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Britton Funeral Home Chapel in Potosi, Mo., with the Rev. Leonard Compton officiating. Burial will be in Caledonia Cemetery in Caledonia, Mo., under the direction of Britton Funeral Home in Potosi. Mr. FOX was born  April 7, 1935, in Illinois, to Elmer and Bessie (SWINFORD) FOXX. He died Monday, June 5, 2000, in Sallisaw. He married Irma Jean McCLAIN  Sept. 2, 1956, in Bellview.  Survivors include his wife, Irma FOXX of the home; one daughter Kathy Jean; one son, Ricky William; three grandchildren; one sister, Shirley; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. Mr. FOXX was preceded in death by one brother, Jimmy FOXX in 1961.

Mr. HUMPHREY was born Feb. 5, 1941, in Pawpaw Bottoms, to George A. HUMPHREY and Loretta (TAYLOR) HUMPHREY. He died Sunday, June 4, 2000, in Sallisaw. He married Erma Jean SPOON Dec. 23, 1961, in Stilwell. Survivors include his wife, Erma HUMPHREY of the home; three daughters, Destiny , Kim and Terri; two sons, William Jr., and David; 11 grandchildren; two sisters, Mary and Glenda; two brothers, Randy and Mike; and several nieces, nephews; cousins and other relatives and friends. Mr. LORIS was born Feb. 29, 1924, in Fort Smith, to James and Hattie Belle LORIS. He died Thursday, June 1, 2000, at his home. He married Barbara VICK Jan 6, 1946. Burial was in Floral Haven Memorial Garden in Broken Arrow, under the direction of Hayhurst Funeral Home in Broken Arrow. Mrs. MAHAN was born Nov. 22, 1919, in Sallisaw, to Luther and Nellie (BROWN) HINDMAN. She died Thursday, May 25, 2000, at Hillcrest Hospital in Tulsa. Survivors include two daughters  and one son-in-law, Glenda and Bill, and Wilma; one son, Charles; one sister, Ruth; one brother, Raymond; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Mrs. MAHAN was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph MAHAN; one son, Freddy HAMILTON; one grandson, Robbie LAUDETT; and one son-in-law, L.C. CARDWELL.

Burial is in Belfonte Cemetery, under the direction of Lescher-Millsap Funeral Home in Muskogee. Mrs. VANN was born Oct. 21, 1949, in Nicut, to Richard and Sarah (SEABOLT) COLEMAN. She died Monday, June 5, 2000, in Muskogee. Survivors include her children, Ian, Brian, Rodney, Darren and Iva Renee; six sisters, Clara, Yvonne, Katherine, Susie, Shirley and Sharon; one half-sister, Dorothy; three brothers, Henry Jr., Henry Lee and Martin; and seven grandchildren. Mrs. VANN was preceded in death by three sisters, Geneva ROBERTS, Nancy SOAP, and Sally DAUGHERTY; and one half-sister, Maggie BUCK.

Edward Stinson FRYE, 72, of Fort Smith, Ark., died Monday, June 5, 2000 at his home. Burial of Cremains were held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel in Fort Smith. Memorial services followed at 10:30 a.m. at Roebuck Chapel of the First United Methodist Church in Fort Smith. Survivors include his wife, Jean of the home; two sons, William Charles and Dr. Edward Kent; one daughter, Karen Jean; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary; and one brother, Charles Oliver. Mr. FRYE was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Oliver FRYE and Mary ANDERSON FRYE.

Mrs. GILLELAND was born Jan. 30, 1954, in Kansas City, Mo., to James David HOLMAN and Dixie Lee (CUMMINGS) HOLMAN. She died Monday, June 5, 2000, at her home. She married Dennis GILLELAND Nov. 16, 1979, in Tulsa. Survivors include her husband, Dennis of the home; three sons, Dennis, Brian and Patrick Neal; two daughters, Shanda and Debbie; three brothers, Charles David, James Riley, and Brian; six sisters, Robin Louise, Bernice, Scherry Elise, DeLaine, Renee and Dara; her father, James David; nine grandchildren; sister-in-law, Linda; father-in-law, James and wife, Louise; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Mrs. GILLELAND was preceded in death by her mother, Dixie Lee BREEDEN on Dec. 31, 1995; and one sister, Bonnie SAYLER.

Burial is in Snake Girty Cemetery, under the direction of Millsap Funeral Service in Webbers Falls. Mr. WOOTEN was born April 20, 1923, in Webbers Falls to Senite and Pauline (JACKSON) WOOTEN. He died Wednesday, June 7, 2000, in Sallisaw. He married Mary Reece May 4, 1946, in Muskogee.  Surviovrs include his wife, Mary WOOTEN of the home; four daughters, Margaret, Doris, Barbara and Jerl Dean; one son, Garvis Jr.; one brother, Bill; three sisters, Lorene, Neva and Joyce; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Mr. WOOTEN was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Jewel WOOTEN; one daughter, Sue Ann WOOTEN on March 16, 1950.

Burial was at Fort Gibson National Cemetery under the direction of Millsap Funeral Service. Mr. ABEL was born July 18, 1924, in Vian, to Thomas and Georgia (RUARK) ABEL. He died Tuesday, June 6, 2000, in Muskogee. Survivors include three sons, Bill, Terry and Gary; two daughters, Carol and Shelly; one brother, Bill; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mr. ABEL was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Kim ABEL.

Funeral services for George A. CHEEK, Jr., 76, of Midwest City were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Paylor Funeral Home Chapel in Midwest City. Burial was in Arlington Memory Gardens under the direction of Paylor Midwest City Funeral Home. Mr. CHEEK was born March 6, 1924, in Sallisaw to George and Viva (BOYDSTON) CHEEK. He died June 10, 2000. Survivors include his wife, Norma CHEEK; two sons, George A. III and Mike; seven grandchildren; one brother, Clayton; and one sister, Cleo. Mr. CHEEK was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Bernice TAYLOR and one brother, J.D. CHEEK.

Burial was in Old Dallas Cemetery in Mena, under the direction of Beasley-Wood Funeral Home. Mrs. HAYNES was born May 17, 1920, in Parker. She died Saturday, June 10, 2000 in Sparks Regional Medical Center in Fort Smith, Ark. She married  the late Floyd William HAYNES on May 25, 1938, in Stradford. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Patsy and O.L; one sister, Cornelia; three grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of other family and friends. Mrs. HAYNES was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Ann HODG, her husband, Floyd William HAYNES,  two sisters, Ivy PIERCE and Ardell FOSHER; two brothers, Otis and Guy AUSTIN and a special niece, Ginger STILWELL.

Burial is under the direction of Agent Funeral Home in Sallisaw. Mr. Harrison was born March 3, 1927, in Sallisaw, to Bennie HARRISON Sr. and Edna (PERRY) HARRISON. He died Saturday, June 10, 2000, in Tulsa. Mr. HARRISON married Lillian Maxine EDEN on June 1, 1983, in Pinole, Calif. Survivors include his wife, Maxine, of the home; three sons, Mike, Glenn and Rick; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary; and one brother, Pete.

Funeral services for Karen Lee HAMILTON OGLE, 53, of Sallisaw, were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, at Jones Memorial United Methodist Church in Hartford, Ark. Burial was in Hartford Memorial Park under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home in Hartford. Mrs. OGLE died Sunday, June 10, 2000, at her home.  She was the widow of Jack OGLE. Survivors include her mother, Connie; three stepsons, Kevin, Kent and Kelly; and eight step-grandchildren. Mrs. OGLE was also preceded in death by her father, Carl HAMILTON and her step-father, Kenneth FORD

Burial is under the direction of Mallory Funeral Home of Sallisaw. Mr. PARKER was born March 18, 1831, in Mangum, to Fred PARKER and Josie May WILEMAN. He died Tuesday, June 13, 2000, in Sallisaw. Survivors include his wife, Janet Kay (HEDGES) PARKER of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly and Frank; two granddaughters; his mother, Josie May; one sister, Ruth; and six brothers, Bill, Jerry, Dewey, Fred Jr, Ted and Kenny.

Burial is in the U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith, with full military honors, under the directions of Edwards Funeral Home. Mr. TREAT died Satruday, June 10, 2000, in Fort Smith. Survivors include four daughters, Barbara, Karen, Lisa and Brenda; one son Calvin Jr.; two sisters, Betty and Bonnie; five brothers, Clayton, Clarence, Claude, Clyde and Carl;10 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Memorial services for Virginia UPMEYER VANHANDEL, 25, of Aumsville, Ore., were held at 2 p.m. Sunday in Oregon. Born in Ontario, Ore. ,  Mrs. VANHANDEL  died Tuesday, May 30, 2000. She married Thomas VANHANDEL on December 4, 1999, in Lyons, Ore. Survivors include her mother and stepfather, Richard and Mary; father, John ; brother, John H. Jr.; aunts and uncles in this area, John and Genia,  Kelly and Helen; Bill and Kerri, James; and numerous other family member in Idaho and Oregon.

Mrs. WATTERS married Sidney Lee WHITAKER on December 9, 1933, in Greenbriar, Ark. He died Tuesday, June 13, 2000, in Muskogee. Mr. HAGEMANN married Emma Isabel HARTER on Oct. 12, 1966, in Carson City, Nev. Survivors include his wife, Emma I. HAGEMANN; one son, Thomas Lee; one stepdaughter, Rebecca L.; two stepsons, Donald E. and Richard M.; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Burial was in Sallisaw City Cemetery, under the direction of Agent Funeral Home. Mr. LEE was born Nov. 27, 1912, in Estelline, Texas, to Ivanhoe Rex LEE and Eva Mae (CRANDALL) LEE. He died Sunday, June 18, 2000, in Fort Smith, Ark. He married Gana Lee WELCH on Jan. 6, 1932, in Chatsworth, Ga. She preceded him in death Nov. 11, 1980. Survivors include one daughter, Jena May; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Juanita and Dixie; one daughter-in-law, Pat; one son-in-law, Wayne; and four sisters-in-law.  Mr. LEE was also preceded in death by one son, Samuel C. LEE in 1995, and one daughter, Mary Etta NICHOLSON in 1998.

Erma Rose SLATTERY, 518 West Chickasaw, Sallisaw, died Thursday evening, June 15 in Sallisaw. Erma was born Mrch 1, 1924 at Saskatchewan, Canada, to Thomas Matthew KETTER of Winnepeg, Canada and Nellie May EDGERLY KETTER.She married Steve SLATTERY, who preceded her in death. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, James and Merlin KETTER. Survivors include her sister, Mrs. Ethel M. (Dorothy); a niece, Marjorie.

Mr. SPARKMAN married Susan SULLIVAN on June 15, 1998, in Las Vegas, Nev. Mrs. JOHNSON was preceded in death by her husband, Harold, and one son, Bill.

Mrs. RISLEY was born Aug. 6, 1941, in Robbinsville, N.C., to Calvin Bruce HYDE and Mary Emma (STEWART) HYDE. She died Wednesday, June 21, 2000, in Muskogee. Mrs. RISLEY married John William RISLEY on Aug. 9, 1966, in Reno, Nev. He preceded her in death on Nov. 13, 1995. Survivors include: two daughters, Terry and Johnie Sue; three grandchildren; four sisters, Shelby J., Eva Marie, Joyce and Joan; six brothers, Hershell, Norman, Calvin B., Jimmy, Danny, and Randy.

She died Tuesday, June 27, 2000, in Gore. Mrs. BARRICK married Gordon Keith BARRICK, June 27, 1950, in Fort Smith, Ark. Survivors include her husband, Gordon K. BARRICK of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Phyllis and L.D. ;  two sons and one daughter-in-law, Sammy and Diann, and Steven Edward; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one sister, Deloris. Mrs. BARRICK was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Lewis GREEN and one sister, Lenora DICKENSON.

Newell  SMITH on Dec. 27, 1938, in Sallisaw. Surviovrs include one son and daughter-in-law, Leo and Cindy; two grandchildren, Steve and his wife, Carol, and Seana and her husband Joe; four great-grandchildren,, Grant and Courtney, Jesse and Jay; one sister, Seba; two nephews, Special friends and adopted daughters; Pat and Debbie.Mrs. SMITH was preceded in death by her husband, A.
