Graveside services for Jerry Lee CARSON, 74, of Muldrow are being held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2012, at Blackjack Cemetery in Muldrow with the Rev. Tommy Noel officiating under the direction of Agent Funeral Home of Muldrow. Mr. CARSON was born on April 20, 1938, in Lavaca, Ark., to William Roy CARSON and Ethel (JOHNSTON) CARSON. He died on Friday, Sept. 28, 2012, in Fort Smith, Ark. He was a retired truck driver. Survivors include his companion, Tina FOGLIO of the home; two daughters, Gerri BELLOUS of Washington and Gina NOVELL of California; four sons, Richard CARSON of Waterford, Calif., Shawn CARSON of Lancaster, Calif., and Dominick HOTETZ and Carl HOTETZ, both of California; several grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Robert and Ronald CARSON; two brothers, Roy and Billy CARSON; and one sister, Daffaray CARSON
Funeral services for Carl W. DUNN, 82, of Sallisaw will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5, 2012, at the Agent & Mallory-Martin Chapel in Sallisaw. Burial will be at Sallisaw City Cemetery under the direction of Agent Funeral Home of Sallisaw. Mr. DUNN was born on April 21, 1930, in Sallisaw to John DUNN and Delia HULSE DUNN EPPLER. He died on Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2012, in Vian. He was a bus driver for Greyhound. Survivors include one daughter, Deborah WILL of Maple Valley, Wash.; one son, Michael DUNN of Stockton, Calif.; four grandchildren; one sister Ruby HENRY; three brothers, Bill EPPLER, Calvin EPPLER and Ted EPPLER; and several other family members and friends. Pallbearers will be Michael Dunn, Jeff Will, Jeffrey Will, Curtis Eppler, Keith Eppler, and Phil Henry.
Funeral services for Bill ENGLISH, 85, of Muldrow will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 4, 2012, at the Agent Chapel in Muldrow with the Rev. Don Parr officiating. Burial will be at Dora Cemetery in Dora under the direction of Agent Funeral Home of Sallisaw. Mr. ENGLISH was born on May 20, 1927, in Dora to Zeke ENGLISH and Gladys (SHAFFER) ENGLISH. He died on Friday, Sept. 28, 2012, in Roland. He was a maintenance man for JC Penney. He married Mary Lucille CORREA on June 28, 1947, in Fort Smith, Ark. Survivors include his wife, Mary ENGLISH of the home; four daughters, Joan MOBLEY and Doris Jean ENGLISH, both of Ventura, Calif., and Susie KNUTSON and Kim PYLE, both of Roland; two sons, Bill Jo ENGLISH of Fort Smith and Larry ENGLISH of Maple; two sisters, Jonnie BOND and Learl, both of Fort Smith; three brothers, Jack ENGLISH of Roland, Odell ENGLISH of Fort Smith and Ed ENGLISH of Cameron; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and several other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers; and three sisters. Pallbearers will be Shawn Knutson, Weston Miller, Bill Pyle, Larry English, Galen Knutson and Bill Jo English.
Bob HOPE, 55, of Sallisaw died on Friday, Sept. 28, 2012, in Sallisaw. He was born on April 26, 1957, in Glendale, Wash., to Robert Oliver HOPE and Elain (HARVEY) HOPE. No formal service is planned at this time. Cremation is under the direction of Agent Funeral Home of Sallisaw. He was a mechanic. He married Tammie FLOYD on April 13, 1989, in San Point, Idaho. Survivors include his wife, Tammie HOPE of the home; one son, Paul HOPE of Tulsa; one sister, Jane HOPE of Washington; and one brother, David HOPE of Alaska.
Funeral services for Nora Darlene PATTERSON, 65, of Sallisaw will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 4, 2012, at First Assembly of God Church in Sallisaw with the Rev. Jerry Gunsolus officiating. Burial will be at the Sallisaw City Cemetery under the direction of AddVantage Funeral and Cremation Service of Tulsa. Mrs. PATTERSON was born on Aug. 26, 1947, in Reno, Nev., to George and Lula (BAILEY) BREWER. She died on Monday, Oct. 1, 2012, in Sallisaw. She was a homemaker. She married Carl Fred PATTERSON on March 4, 1966, in Sallisaw. Survivors include her husband, Carl of the home; two sons, Jeffery PATTERSON and wife, Melissa of Velma and James PATTERSON and wife, Krissy of Muldrow; two daughters, Liz WATSON and husband, Mark of Bailey, N.C., and Teresa PATTERSON of Fort Smith, Ark.; three brothers, Bob BREWER of Glendale, Ariz., John BREWER of Sand Springs, and Terry BREWER of Sallisaw; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2012, at First Assembly of God Church in Sallisaw.
Funeral services for Jackie Carrol RAGAINS, 64, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 4, 2012, at the Mallory-Martin Chapel in Spiro under the direction of Mallory-Martin Funeral Home of Spiro. Mr. RAGAINS was born on July 30, 1948, in Panama to Frank Edward RAGAINS and Alta Lucille (GATEWOOD) RAGAINS. He died on Monday, Oct. 1, 2012, in Fort Smith, Ark. He worked for Pauls Pawn Shop in Fort Smith for 26 years and owned and operated Fat Jacks BBQ in Fort Smith for over 11 years. He enjoyed cooking barbecue and fish and enjoyed trail riding. Survivors include his wife Judy (HENRY) RAGAINS of the home; one son, Jackie RAGAINS Jr., and wife, Brandy of Paris, Ark.; two brothers, Don Carl RAGAINS of Jenny Lind, Ark., and Johnny Mack RAGAINS of Cecil, Ark.; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, James Edward RAGAINS.

Joyce Ann HALL, 68, of Fort Smith, Ark., died on Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2012, in Fort Smith. Joyce was born on June 27, 1944, the daughter of Walter Whit MORGAN and Elsie (STOCKTON) MORGAN. She married Henry HALL on April 4, 1962, in Stilwell. Mrs. HALL was a secretary for the Oklahoma Veterans News for 20 years. Survivors are her husband, Henry of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, John and Michelle HALL of Fort Smith; one grandson, Harrison HALL of Fort Smith; three sisters, Cathy FOLLOWELL, Regina DAVIS and Linda SMALL, all of Muldrow; three brothers, Carl, Glenn and Joe MORGAN, all of Muldrow; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Louella STAMPS; and three brothers, Harvey, Edmond and Louie MORGAN. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 5, 2012, at Upper Camp Creek Cemetery under the direction of Agent Funeral Home. Funeral services for John Odis McCANN, 86, of Gore will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 8, 2012, at Lakeview Baptist Church with the Rev. Kurt Henry officiating under the direction of Millsap Funeral Service of Webbers Falls. Mr. McCANN was born on Jan. 21, 1926, in Dunn La., to John and Virginia (GILBERT) McCANN. He died on Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2012, in Gore. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Prior to his retirement he worked as a concrete finisher. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, cooking and eating Cajun food. He married Rose Ellen BRANNUM on Aug. 30, 1948, in McKinney, Texas. She preceded him in death after 56 years of marriage, on Sept. 14, 2004. Survivors include his children, Rosa Lee DeGOLIER of Chandler, Daniel Odis McCANN and wife, Janice of Hooker, Pat MINTER and husband, Mike of Gore, Donald Ray McCANN and wife, Laura of HOOKER and Teresa Kay TURNER of Sallisaw; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Marian BRANNUM and husband, Harvey and Connie DALE; and brothers, Herschel Glen McCANN and Harvey McCANN. He was also preceded in death by his parents; a son, Robert McCANN; brothers, Charles Ray McCANN and Ralph McCANN; sister, Doris Jean McCANN; and a great-granddaughter.

Funeral services for Tuxa Tilton BALLARD, 54, of Vian are being held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2012, at Vian Creek Baptist Church. Burial is at Barnoskie Cemetery in Vian under the direction of Agent Funeral Home of Sallisaw. Mr. BALLARD was born on July 7, 1958, in Tahlequah to Tuxa BALLARD and Myria (LOCUST) BALLARD. He died on Friday, Oct. 5, 2012, in Tulsa. He was a general laborer. Survivors include five daughters, Destyni BALLARD of Tulsa, Chelsea LASITER of Langly, Xena BALLARD of Bartlesville and Alison BALLARD and Alexis BALLARD, both of Florida; his mother, of Vian; three sisters, Kay TACKETT of Vian, Connie BOOK of Jenks and Katina CLINE of Tulsa; six grandchildren; and several other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father.
Funeral services for Tommie CHASTAIN will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, 2012, at the First Baptist Church in Webbers Falls with the Revs. Ray Phillips and George Harris officiating under the direction of Millsap Funeral Service of Webbers Falls. Mr. CHASTAIN was born on Sept. 22, 1945, to John Mutt and Lucille CHASTAIN in Emerson, Ark. He died on Friday, Oct. 5, 2012, in Muskogee. He graduated from Emerson High School and enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he spent 22 years and served four tours in Vietnam. He enjoyed fishing and camping and connecting with others through his C.B. Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Marcella; two children, Rick CHASTAIN and Kelli CHASTAIN CLODFELTER; his father; sister, Tina EMERSON; several grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and several other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother; and a sister, Imogene CHASTAIN PAYNE. Pallbearers will be Lonnie Milton, Curtis Ratcliff, Phil Coppin, Raymond Perkins, Phillip Anthony and Bill Tye.
Graveside services for Danny Franklin CLARK, 57, of Muldrow were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2012, at the Seabolt Cemetery near Nicut under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren, Ark. Mr. CLARK died on Thursday, Oct. 4, 2012, in Muldrow. He was a farm employee and a member of the Lee Creek Assembly of God Church. Survivors include his wife, Tracie ClLARK of the home; a daughter, Christie CLARK; and two brothers, Dale CLARK and Robert CLARK, both of Fort Smith, Ark. He was preceded in death by his parents; a child; a brother; and a sister.

A private burial will be held at the National Cemetery in Fort Smith, Ark., under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home of Ozark. Mr. GIOJA was born on May 18, 1984, in Vicenza, Italy to Edward and Trina HARTT GIOJA. He died on Monday, Oct. 8, 2012, in Clarksville. He was an Army veteran and served five years active duty for the Army National Guard and served in Operation Enduring Freedom in Bosnia and Operation Iraqi Freedom. Survivors include his wife, Clarissa FISHER GIOJA of Clarksville; one son, James Michael GIOJA of the home; his mother, Trina DAWSON and husband, Charles of Tulsa; his father, Edward GIOJA and wife, Renee of Spokane, Wash.; one brother, Andrew GIOJA of Spokane; two sisters, Kelly GIOJA of Spokane and Erin ACERO and husband, Beto; and several other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandfather.

Burial will be at Box Cemetery under the direction of Green Country Funeral Home of Tahlequah. Mr. LEE was born on May 6, 1936, in Blackgum to Owen Sylvester LEE and Della Ella (RAY) LEE. He died on Saturday, Oct. 6, 2012, in Tulsa. He married Shirley YANDELL in 1957. She preceded him in death. He graduated from Vian High School in 1955. He worked as a welder, rancher and cowboy. He also enjoyed the guitar, music, singing, telling stories and spending time with his family and friends. Survivors include four children, Ricky LEE and Lori AUXIER and husband, Phillip, all of Hulbert, Debbie LEE of Tulsa and Shawnda UPTON and husband, Chuck of Warner; sister Ruth WASSON and husband, Frank of Vian; brother, Rex LEE and wife, Sherry of Vian; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and several other family members and friends. He was also preceded in death by his parents; sister, Ruby SPENCER; Brother, Jerry LEE; and two grandsons. Bobby Lee BROWN, 85, of Muldrow was born on Nov. 7, 1926, in Huntington, Ark., to Lonnie BROWN and Ann BROWN. He died on Monday, Oct. 8, 2012, in Fort Smith, Ark. No formal service is planned at this time. Burial of cremains will be at the National Cemetery in Fort Smith. Cremation is under the direction of Agent Funeral Home of Sallisaw. He was an insurance investigator. He married Eddye Lou LYNCH on April 5, 1951, in Los Angeles, Calif. She preceded him in death on Sept. 21, 2007.Survivors include one son, Mike BROWN of Muldrow; and one sister, Pat HOLMES of Los Angeles.

Burial will be at Roland City Cemetery under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel of Fort Smith, Ark. Mr. CAREY was born on Jan. 25, 1959, in Yakima, Wash. He died on Monday, Oct. 8, 2012, in Roland. He was a member of Moffett Full Gospel Pentecostal Church and a former employee of Bowling Alley. Survivors include his wife, Crystal; four sons, Ronnie Jr., Joseph and Bill CAREY, of the home and David TAYLOR of Roland; two sisters, Wilma TURPIN of Roland and Carolyn McCOY of Gans; and one brother, Leon HOWARD of Stigler. Mr. DANNER was born on Feb. 28, 1933, in Astoria, Ill., to Lester and Lola (SHAWGO) DANNER. He died on Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2012, in Canton. He was a cole miner with AMAX Coal Company and an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Canton and Freewill Baptist Church in Vian. He was also a member of American Legion Post 31 in Astoria. He first married Glenda LANCASTER of Astoria, who preceded him in death in 2001. He later married Catherine Dottie SEBREE on Dec. 27, 2006, in Vian. Survivors include his wife, Catherine DANNER; one son, Marty DANNER of San Antonio, Texas; a daughter, Stacy DANNER of Vian; three stepchildren, Debra CASSEL, Mark SEBREE and Kathy GORSUCH; four grandchildren; eight stepgrandchildren; two brothers, Bill DANNER of Astoria and Tuffy DANNER of Rushville; and two sisters, Willadean SHAFER and Estyl McCOMBS, both of Astoria. Funeral services for Jim E. CHERRY, 70, of Muldrow are being held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2012, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Muldrow. Burial is at Muldrow Memory Gardens under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith, Ark. Mr. CHERRY was born on July 29, 1942, in Fort Smith to U.D. CHERRY Jr., and Lorraine (CONDREN) CHERRY. He died on Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012. He was a retired rancher and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. He was a proud citizen of the Cherokee Nation. Survivors include his wife, Vickie; two sons, Wesley J. CHERRY and Eric CHERRY both of Muldrow; and one brother, Mike CHERRY and wife, Martha of Muldrow. Pallbearers are his nephews, Steven, Shawn, Todd and Jonathan Cherry and Robert and Larry Ramey. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Dennis CHERRY. Funeral services for Lenora W. ELLIS, 92, of Vian were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2012, at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Sallisaw with Pastor Tim Schull officiating. Burial was at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Vian under the direction of Agent Funeral Home of Sallisaw. Mrs. ELLIS was born on July 11, 1920, in Box to John Franklin WRIGHT and Dola Mae (DAVIS) WRIGHT. She died on Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012, in Warner. She was a teacher at Vian Public Schools for 22 years. She married George Washington ELLIS on June 6, 1938, in Gore. He preceded her in death on Sept. 11, 1999. Survivors are one daughter, Pat DOTSON of Warner; four sons, George ELLIS of Siloam Springs, Ark, Gerald ELLIS and Johnny ELLIS, both of Vian and Ken ELLIS of Edmond; three sisters, Colene, Todd and Frankie; two brothers, Jimmy and Jack WRIGHT; 15 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and several other family members and friends. She was also preceded in death by her parents; two grandsons; three sisters, Arlene, Mattie and Barbara; and two brothers, Bill and John Bluford WRIGHT. Pallbearers were her grandsons.
Maria GERNANDT was born on Sept. 20, 1956, in Tahlequah, the daughter of Ed SEVENSTAR and Lezzie (DICK) SEVENSTAR. She was married to Fritz GERNANDT on Sept. 26, 1975, in Muldrow. Mrs. GERNANDT retired from Rheem Manufacturing and was a member of the Vineyard Community Church in Fort Smith, Ark. She passed this life on Thursday, Oct. 11, 2012, in Muldrow at the age of 56. Survivors are her husband, Fritz of the home; two daughters and one son-in-law, Renee GERNANDT BARNES and husband, Joe of Auburn, Mass., and Olivia GERNANDT UMMERTESKEE of Tahlequah; one son and daughter-in-law, W.C. GERNANDT and wife, Kellie of Jenks; five grandchildren, Payne UMMERTESKEE, Joseph BARNES Jr., Coy Barnes, Eli BARNES and Will GERNANDT IV; six sisters, Lena, Louise, Lucille, Lois, Shirley and Sharon; two brothers, John and Eli; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, Boon. She died on Friday, Oct. 12, 2012, in Tulsa. She retired as an operator for Southwestern Bell. Survivors include one son, Jerry WAGES of Mounds; one stepdaughter, Marilyn MATTHEWS of Tulsa; one stepson, Mike MATTHEWS of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several other relatives and friends. Mr. NELSON was born on Dec. 26, 1927, in Japton, Ark., to Herschel and Elizabeth (WITT) NELSON. He died on Friday, Oct. 12, 2012, in Fort Smith. He was a retired rancher, member of the Christian Center and Army veteran of World War II. Survivors are his wife, Jane; three daughters, Sharon SASSE of Richland, Wash., Samantha STAMPS of Alma, Ark., and Shelia RIGGS of Sallisaw; five sons, Kenny NELSON and Steve NELSON, both of Sunnyside, Wash., Doug NELSON of Walla Walla, Wash., Mark NELSON and Kelly NELSON Jr., both of Van Buren, Ark., Vinson WILLIAMS of Fort Smith, and Shane WILLIAMS of Kansas City, Mo.; two sisters, Audrey GABBARD of Huntsville, Ark., and Lucille FOSTER of Pateros, Wash.; 23 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Tyler Nelson, Joshua Owens, Kelly Nelson III, Kelly Nelson Jr., Doug Nelson and Mickey Stamps. Betty L. RHODES, 74, of Stilwell was born on July 12, 1938, in Mt. Vernon, Ky., to George MORRIS and Eve (ISACCS) MORRIS. She died on Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012, in Stilwell. No formal service is planned at this time. Cremation is under the direction of Agent Funeral Home of Sallisaw. She was self-employed and worked in horticulture. He died on Monday, Oct. 15, 2012, in Muskogee. Prior to retirement he worked as a pipefitter. He enjoyed watching deer and turkeys, fishing and watching his grandchildren play ball. He served in the U.S. Navy and retired from Hawker-Beech Aircraft as a welder. He enjoyed fishing and riding motorcycles. Charlotte Faye SELF PATE, 51, of Sallisaw, loving mother, daughter, teacher and friend passed away on Monday, Oct. 22, 2012, in Sallisaw. Charlotte was born on Nov. 3, 1960, in Franklin, La., the daughter of John Dixon SELF and Carol Joan (ANKLAM) SELF. She received her Bachelors in Education from Northeastern State University and taught fourth and fifth grade at Eastside Elementary School in Sallisaw. She was a member of the Missionary Baptist Church in Sallisaw. She is survived by three daughters, Amy of Fort Smith, Ark., Kate of Austin, Texas and Kim of Sallisaw; her parents, John and Carol SELF of Poteau; four sisters, Ruthie HOWELL of Texas City, Texas, Gayle JOHNSON of Tahlequah, Karen SELF of Poteau and Nancy SELF of Lafayette, La.; lifelong companion, Davy PATE of Sallisaw; and her many beloved students whom she adored. Jimmie Dwane PRUITT, 65, of Oktaha, Oklahoma passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2012, after a short bout with cancer. He was born on March 23, 1947, in Tulare, Calif., to Opal (CRAIGHEAD PRUITT and Ivey PRUITT. After graduating from Vian High School he joined the U.S. Air Force where he had 23 years of distinguished service. He met and married Buna E. HOPKINS on May 16, 1971. He went on to have one son, Robert Ivey PRUITT of Vilonia, Ark., and one daughter Christina Alane PRUITT JUENGST of Oktaha. After retirement from the Air Force he began a new career as a motor transportation operator, which he continued for 19 years before fully retiring. Jimmie was one of 11 children of which he is survived by four brothers, Troy PRUITT, Donald PRUITT, George PRUITT and Loyedale PRUITT; three sisters, Lois BERVEL, Pearl McDONALD and Dorthy DAVIS; as well as his wife, Buna PRUITT; son, Robert and wife, Adrianne PRUITT; daughter, Christina and husband, Kevin JUENGST; and three granddaughters, Daisha MILES, Breanna JUENGST and JuliAnna JUENGST. Graveside services will be held on Monday, Oct. 29, 2012, at Blackgum Box Community Cemetery at 11 a.m., with Pastor D. Van Washington of Oktaha Trinity Baptist Church officiating. Mrs. CANTRELL was born Sept 13, 1931 in Adair County the daughter of Mace CENTER and Mary ASBILL CENTER. She married Junior CANTRELL on March 31, 1949 in Fort Smith, Arkansas. He preceded her in death on January 20, 1996 in Fort Smith, Arkansas. She leaves to mourn her two sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Vickie CANTRELL of Sallisaw and Larry and Jacqueta CANTRELL of Tahlequah. She died on Sunday, Oct. 28, 2012, in Fort Smith, Ark. She was a line worker. She married Raymond Webster MITCHELL in 1940. He preceded her in death on Oct. 23, 1981. Survivors include one daughter, Phyllis WYLIE of Roland; one son Curtis MITCHELL and wife, Margie of Fort Smith; eight grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. Dr. Bob Gunter MITCHELL, 81, died on Friday, Oct. 26, 2012, at his home in Sallisaw. He was a medical doctor, nursing home owner, and a Methodist. He was born to Okla Gunter and Sam L. MITCHELL on May 16, 1931, and was proud of his Cherokee heritage. He graduated from Sallisaw High School in 1949, and in 1956, graduate from the University of Oklahoma Medical School. After completing his residency and living in Henryetta for a short time, he moved his family back to his hometown of Sallisaw to start a family practice and his clinic located at the corner of Choctaw and Oak. He served as an attending physician and board member at Sequoyah Memorial Hospital and was instrumental in its growth. He loved his patients, old and young, and was devoted to their care throughout his career as a family doctor. In his love and care for the elderly he as a pioneer in the construction and development of many skilled nursing facilities and hospice care agencies across Oklahoma, Arkansas and Texas. He was still active in this business at the time of his death. He had a passion for horses, and at one time was a part owner of the racetrack, Blue Ribbons Downs. He built Sunlight Farms, east of Sallisaw to be the home based facility for his breeding and racing operation of both quarter horses and thoroughbreds. Dr. MITCHELL served on many boards of many organizations through his lifetime, but was very honored to serve on the University of Oklahoma Board of Regents from 1972 to 1979, serving as their president in 1978-79. While on the board, he saw growth and development of the Health Science Center, programs for the American Indians, expansion of the intercollegiate athletic activities, and hiring of legendary Coach Barry Switzer. He also served on the board of directors for the OU Health Science Center. He supported and loved his OU Sooners and still attended almost every home football game. Dr. MITCHELL was formally an active airplane pilot, logging thousands of hours flying and helped with some of the early development to the Sallisaw Airport. He was also proud to contribute and help other organizations including The University of Oklahoma, Carl Albert State College and the American Cancer Society. An active sports enthusiast he loved to water and snow ski, boat, ride motorcycles, attend sporting events including the Sooners, Razorbacks, OKC Thunder, Cowboys, horse racing and many others. He is survived by two daughters, Angela M. TABOR of Muldrow and Dr. Marcinda MITCHELL of Sallisaw; two sons, Dr. Mike MITCHELL and his wife, Kathy of Muldrow and Kelly MITCHELL and Dana of Plano, Texas; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and companion Ruby BROWN of Roland. He was preceded in death by his parents. Pallbearers were Alex Catsavis, George Catsavis, Rossi Christenberry, Michael Morton, Michael Ocker and Steve Vicary. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Bert Corley, Gilbert Green, Philip Green, Pat McGowan, James Lawson, Junior ONeal and Ken ONeal. She was preceded in death by her husband, R.D. VAUGHN; her parents; two sisters; and four brothers. Funeral services for Bobbie Don SMITH, 65, were held at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 29, 2012, at the Mallory-Martin Chapel in Spiro with the Revs. Buel Lewallen and Sid Ree officiating. Burial was at Monroe Cemetery under the direction of Mallory-Martin Funeral Home of Spiro. Mr. SMITH was born on July 21, 1947, in Heavener to Earl Luther SMITH and Vera (WILSON) SMITH. He died on Thursday, Oct. 25, 2012, in Spiro. He was a welder, a member of the Eagles 3860, VFW 4484 of Spiro and he served his country in Vietnam. Survivors include one daughter, Cheryl SMITH SPIERS and husband, Frank of Charleston; one son, David Earl SMITH of Houston, Texas; three sisters, Jo Alice SMITH HAMILTON of Spiro, Jane SMITH HOLCOMBE and husband, Charles of Splendora, Texas and Linda MARTIN WEISE and husband, Buddy of Houston; companion, Dottie NIXON of Sallisaw; two grandsons; and several other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife of 37 years, Charlotte HOLCOMBE SMITH.
Funeral services for Alice Bernice STEVENSON, 64, of Sallisaw will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 2, 2012, at Vian Freewill Baptist Church with the Rev. Vernon Stone officiating. Burial will be at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Vian under the direction of Agent Funeral Home of Sallisaw. Mrs. STEVENSON was born on Aug. 29, 1948, in Vian to Heaver SMITH and Willie Mae (GRITTS) SMITH. She died on Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2012, in Sallisaw. She was a cook at Cherokee Nation Nutrition Center. Survivors include three daughters, Dina WALLS of Arlington, Texas, Sherry HOWINGTON of Sallisaw and Cynthia MYERS of Broken Bow; one son, Joe STEVENSON Jr. of Claremore; two sisters, Mary Ellen CUPP of Sallisaw and Virginia SMITH of Vian; one brother, James SMITH of Schulter; and eight grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Jim and Edward SMITH; five sisters, Judy BROWN, Gladys HARVELL, Ruby KNOTTS, Katherine GENTRY and Narcie WEBBER.
Katherine INGLE STOKES was born on July 16, 1917, in Shamrock, the daughter of Anna (CHAPMAN) MORGAN and Earnest MORGAN. Mrs. STOKES taught school from 1941-1954, was County Attorney from 1959-1960, operated her private attorney office from 1966-1982, and operated a tax preparation office from 1950-1994. She loved traveling and painting. Mrs. STOKES passed this life on Oct. 28, 2012 in Sallisaw at the age of 95 years. Survivors are one daughter, Cathy INGLE of Gentry, Ark.; one son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Jean INGLE of Sallisaw; six grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and one nephew, Robert BETTS. She was preceded in death by her parents; triplets; one grandson, Richard Bruce ELLIS; three sisters, Dorothy MORGAN, Hazel MORGAN and Millie GRAY; and three brothers Roy, Howard and Harry MORGAN. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 1, 2012, at Mallory-Martin Chapel in Sallisaw under the direction of Agent Funeral Home of Sallisaw. Lee Roy TEAGUE, 44, of Muldrow died on Friday, Oct. 26, 2012, in Fort Smith, Ark. He was born on Oct. 5, 1968, in Fort Smith, the son of Lillian DUBAC and Charles TEAGUE. He was a machine operator for Baldor. Survivors include two uncles, Roy and Kay TEAGUE of Muldrow and Calvin TEAGUE of Sallisaw; cousins, Clavin Joe TEAGUE of Van Buren, Ark., and Lance TEAGUE of Sallisaw; and numerous other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; and grandparents. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 1, 2012, at Old Cache Cemetery in Keota under the direction of Agent Funeral Home of Sallisaw. Viewing will be held from noon to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Agent & Mallory-Martin Funeral Home in Sallisaw.
Graveside services for LaTona Lynn VINCENT, 57, of Bokoshe are being held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2012, at Old Bokoshe Cemetery with the Rev. O.M. Wilson officiating under the direction of Mallory-Martin Funeral Home of Spiro. Mrs. VINCENT was born on May 26, 1955, in Poteau to Ray and Dortha LaFaye (SMITH) FESPERMAN. She died on Sunday, Oct. 28, 2012, in Fort Smith, Ark. She was employed at Spiro State Bank and a member of the Methodist Church. Survivors include her husband, Bruce VINCENT of the home; one daughter, Jennifer Denise LAYMON and husband, Mike of McCurtain; her mother, of Bokoshe; one sister, Tina Louise FESPERMAN of Morris; two brothers, Curtis Raymond FESPERMAN and wife, Lynn of Twin Hills and Christy Von FESPERMAN and wife, Linda of Coweta; three grandchildren; and several other family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her father.
Funeral services for Emma Lee WALLACE, 91, of Warner were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, 2012, at the First Assembly of God Church in Webbers Falls with the Rev. Wendell Cox officiating. Burial was at White Cemetery in Gore under the direction of Millsap Funeral Service of Webbers Falls. Mrs. WALLACE was born on Dec. 19, 1920, in New Port, Ark., to Edward and Della SWANN. She died on Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2012, in Warner. She married L.D. WALLACE had made her home in Warner for he past 10 years. Survivors include her husband, L.D. WALLACE of the home; her children, Donnie and Martha LEWELLEN of Choctaw, Barbara and Danny BERNAL of Midwest City and Carol HOWARD of Phoenix, Ariz.; stepchildren, Judy POWLESS of Henryetta, Larry and Kay MORITZ of Tulsa, Wyvona and Arvanna JARRARD of Webbers Falls, Lecil and Jan WALLACE of Coweta and Phil and Edith WALLACE of Warner; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Jimmy LEWELLEN; a daughter, Mary MASTERSON; three sisters; and four brothers.
