Sharon Sue Smith Barela
April 2, 1943 – November 21, 2006
Sharon Sue Barela of Coweta passed away on Tuesday morning, November 21, 2006 at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa. She was 63 years, 7 months and 19 days old.
Sharon was born on April 2, 1943 in Albuquerque, New Mexico to Clarence R. and Cleo F. (Creek) Smith. She received her education in the Albuquerque, New Mexico school system and graduated from high school in 1960. She and John Barela were married on November 23, 1960 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. They came to the Coweta area in 2000 from Broken Arrow.
Sharon worked as an editor for Christian Ministries. She was an executive vice president in radio and television advertising and was the sole proprietor for Mark IV Media. She was a member of the Grace Bible Presbyterian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Her hobbies included four-wheeling, baking, camping, shopping, traveling and she also enjoyed horses.
Survivors include her husband, John of the home; two sons, Scott Barela and his wife, Barbara, of Coweta and John Barela and his wife, Lacy, of Broken Arrow; one daughter Coral Dixon and her husband, Mark of Collinsville; her mother Cleo Smith of Coweta; one brother, Louis Smith of Coweta; fourteen grandchildren and two nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Clarence and one granddaughter, Hannah Rose Barela and two brothers.
The family has requested that memorial contributions can be made in memory of Mrs. Barela to Feed the Children in the Philippines, Burma, India, and Bangladesh in care of Grace Bible Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 690628, Tulsa, Oklahoma 74169.
