Colony News

Services for Mary Helen DUNN COSPER of Colony, Washita Co., OK, were held Monday, January 3, 1999, at the Colony Presbyterian Church with Rev. Truman Smith and Ken Bryant officiating.

Burial was at Poage Cemetery Northeast of Colony under the direction of Lockstone Funeral Home of Weatherford, Custer Co., OK.

Mary was born December 30, 1909 in Colony, Ok; the oldest of the eleven children of Elbert Franklin DUNN and Elizabeth Frances Schwartz (who are buried in the same cemetery). She lived in Colony all of her life, with the exception of three years when she lived in Tulsa, OK. She attended Colony School and was Valedictorian of her 8th grade class.

On June 30, 1926, she was united in marriage to James Lloyd COSPER, at Cordell, OK. Mary was a homemaker and helped with the farming at home. She also did babysitting for the area teachers and physicians, including Dr. C.E. Childress, a doctor at the Indian Hospital. She also worked as a cafeteria cook for the Colony School District for many years.

Mary passed away on her 90th birthday (she was very happy on this day), December 30, 1999 at Southwestern Memorial Hospital in Weatherford, Custer Co., OK.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Lloyd COSPER; two daughters, LaQuita and Ethelda; sisters; and two brothers.

Survivors include three sons, James Richard COSPER and wife, Doris of Arrey, NM, Jimmy Doyle "Buddy" COSPER and wife, Darma of Odgen, UT, and Lilburn Lloyd COSPER and wife, Darla of Tecumsch; and one daughter, Virginia SCOTT and husband, Delmer of Colony.

Also, surviving are 21 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; and 25 great great- grandchildren; two brothers, William DUNN and James DUNN, both of OKC; and two sisters, Lenora HODGE of Weatherford and Gwendola BARNES of Colony, OK.
