          The Cordell Beacon for May 28, 1953 reported that Rilma 
		  Betche & Jack Richey were co-valedictorians of the 1953 senior class 
		  at Lake Valley High School.
          
          Mrs. Jack Harper had been appointed chairman of the women's activities 
		  committee of the Washita County chapter of the National Foundation for 
		  infantile paralysis, stated E. N. Sasseen, co-chapter chairman. Mrs. 
		  Harper was also president of the Progressive Mothers club.
          
          The Rev. Finley Reid returned to the Cordell Methodist Church as 
		  pastor for the second year with the assignment of pastorates at the 
		  west Oklahoma conference of the Methodist Church at Oklahoma City. 
		  Reid came to Cordell from Marlow.
          Officers had been elected at a meeting of the Cordell 
		  Rebekah Lodge Monday night, May 25. They were Mrs. W. H. Maynard, 
		  noble grand; Mrs. Frank Medlin, lodge deputy; Mrs. Elva Rogers, drill 
		  captain; Mrs. J.J. Rainbolt, staff captain; & Mrs. Sam Downs, 
		  Representative to Rebekah assembly.
          50 Years Ago
          L. C. Smith, pioneer Washita County resident, had died 
		  at Hammon Friday, May 25, & funeral services had been held Sunday, May 
		  27, at the Cordell Presbyterian Church.
          Miss Winnie Tisdal had received her degree at the 
		  University of Oklahoma June 5 & was returning home with her parents 
		  Mr. & Mrs. C. T. Tisdal.
          Mr. & Mrs. J. W. Molen, Mr. & Mrs. John Molen & 
		  daughter, Betty Boyce, Bonnie Ward & Jack & Hershel Carter, had left 
		  recently for a vacation in Carlsbad & Santa Fe, NM.
          Dr. B. W. Baker, Leon Molen & W. W. Mote had been 
		  winners in the 3 classes of the Decoration Day golf tournament in 
		  Cordell, OK.
