Classmates in the Cordell classes of 1938-39 who held reunions here last weekend, plan to return in 5 years.
It was the first time ever that the class of 1939 has had a reunion-their first in 39 years. The class of 1938 had one previous reunion, but it was in 1939. Those in attendance which included 15 from the '38 class & 25 from the '39 class were entertained with dinner at Loftonian Lodge Saturday night. the Master of Ceremonies was Bob Taylor, president of the 1939 class. the invocation was by Dr. Weldon Vogt. The welcome was given by Clinton Sanfers, who is an Oklahoma County State Legislator. Taylor introduced teachers. Special guest teachers included Mrs. Elaine Self of the Cordell, Dr. Freeman McKee & his wife of Lawton. Classmates & their spouses were introduced & each gave a brief account of the past years since graduation. Doris K. LaRue reported on those that were not present from the class of 1938 & Laura Swift for the class of 1939. Lester Merchant, who traveled 1900 miles, was given the prize for coming from the greatest distance. Lois Harnin Hawley won the prize for having the most children-8. She also had the most grandchildren - 23. Each graduate of 1938-39 was presented with a certificate from Gov. David Boren as an appointed Goodwill Ambassador for the State of Oklahoma. Prior to the banquet Saturday night, classmates were honored with a reception at the First National Bank. Many local persons from Cordell dropped in to see old friends.
