James Jones
According to the family bible, James Jones was born near Jackson Mississippi, on January 16, 1873 and died on October 10, 1935, in Grady County Oklahoma. He moved with his father R. A. Jones thru the states of Alabama, Tennessee, and Arkansas, arriving in the Indian Territory in 1883. He married Miss Lou Russell in Tobucksky County and lived in Enterprise, in the Choctaw Nation. Lou Russell was Choctaw and Cherokee. He took an oath to the Choctaw Nation on April 5, 1899 and was enrolled on the Dawes roll as a citizen of the Choctaw Nation in 1905. He resided for several years in Pontotoc County and then moved to Grady County.

Lou Russell was born Sept.13, 1876 near Brooken in the San Bois, Choctaw Nation. Her father was Walker Russell half Cherokee, and her mother was Vinnie Russell, half Choctaw. She appeared on the 1885 Census of the Choctaw Nation. She married James A. Jones, in1889. They resided in Independence, which is located near Porum. Her fathers aunt ( A Reese ) married Thomas Starr and they had a son named Samuel. Sam married May Belle Shirley and was later known as Belle Starr. Lou often told her grandchildren of visits by Sam and Belle Starr.

James Jones's children in this photo are arranged with the youngest on the left and with the oldest on the right, Youngest is Maggie, Matt, Acy, Russell, Harry, Eva, Nina, and Andrew. All the children of James Jones were born in Indian territory or the state of Oklahoma, all were original Dawes enrollees except for the two on the left, who were born after the Dawes rolls were completed in 1906. All the children lived out their lives and died in Oklahoma.

This picture postcard of brother and sister, Harry and Eva Jones, was mailed from Blanchard Okla. on Aug. 15, 1917, to their sister Nina, who lived at Roff, Okla.
Sitting in the rear seat is Lou Russell Jones, wife of James A. Jones. The baby in the front seat is a daughter Maggie born in 1917. Two of her sons appear standing along side the car. Her nephew is sitting in the front seat beside the baby. This picture was taken about 1918.
