Eureka School

Cherokee County, OK

My paternal grandfather, Jim Cook (James Lorenzo Henry Cook) is on the back row as well as his sister, Pearl. Two other sisters, Eva (who later taught there) and Ella Cook are pictured as well as a younger brother, Dave.

Eureka School - 1926

This last picture was provided by a step cousin, Vernon Chadwick, who lives in Sun City, CA and is 93 years old. Unfortunately, the building was burned a few years ago. It was located across the road from the Eureka Cemetery.

This is a picture of Eureka School children in Cherokee County, Oklahoma. I guess the picture was taken about 1926. There are a lot of cousins in this photo.

The girl, 3rd person from the right in the back row is cousin, Modest Chadwick. To the right of her is cousin, Orway Chadwick.

In the next row, 4th from the left is Vernon Chadwick. I didn't even know that I owned a white shirt then.

In the next row, 2nd from left is cousin, Horace Mcmahan, son of Dad's sister, Laura McMahan, who also lived in Oklahoma at that time.

Front row, left to right, so I am told, is Johnnie Kerr, cousin by marriage. John is the son of the sister of my stepmother, Eva Cook Chadwick. Eva attended this same school about 20 years prior and even taught here as a young woman. Next to John is cousin, Dwight McMahan, he is 2nd from left.

To continue, the 4th from left, with the black hair, is little cousin, J.R. Chadwick. Next to J.R. is little cousin, Violet.  Two places over and also 4th from the right is little sister, Hazel.
