Lone Star School
10 Miles West of Shady Point, Leflore County, Oklahoma

E. E. McAfee, a single woman, of Sebastian County, Arkansas, deeded a tract of land containing two and one-half acres to the Lone Star School District #103 on November 8, 1928.  The deed was filed for record in the office of Monroe Burton, County Clerk, at Poteau on February 17, 1930.  The date that the school started is uncertain. Bonnie Rule of Shady was one of the teachers. She remembers teaching in the 40's.  

Jean Ruyle Kinsey wrote the following account: 

"I don't remember exactly how old I was, but I had not started to school.  I would go with Mother some days.  I remember her cooking a big pot of potato soup or a big pot of beans for the kids.  Some of the kids would ride horses to school and let them loose out around the school until time to go home. The highlight of the day was when they would lift me up to hold on to the bell rope so that I could ring the school bell.  It was sad when they tore it down.  I always wondered what happened to that bell.  I recall one time it had come a big rain and Mother and I had to come back home because the creek was rising so quickly."

On October 18, 1951, a deed was recorded stating that the Board of Education, Panama, District I-20, LeFlore County, Panama, Oklahoma, conveyed the property to Fred Bledsoe.  The Bledsoe heirs still own the property.
