Hastings schools were in operation until the late 50's or possibly as late
as 1961/62, I believe.
Mother is still living & attends the Hastings Alumni Association Homecoming
held every year on the Sat. following Thanksgiving. I have attended many
of them with my mother over the course of the last 30 years or so. These
gatherings were generally a catered meal followed by a program of entertainment
& memories of classes long gone and were originally held in the old school
gymnasium. When the building was demolished the gathering was moved to Waurika
and held in a local elementary school cafeteria. However, last year the dinner
was moved back to Hastings & held in the Baptist Church. The older classes
have fewer represented every year.
My mother & Ollie ("Bud") Coffer were the only 2 surviving 1932 graduates
to represent their class until 3 years ago when he failed to appear or let
anyone know his status. So, we're afraid Mother may now be the only surviving
graduate.
Daisey Wilson's parents operated the only hotel in Hastings. Lilly Mae had
a sister named Ada & Bud had a younger sister named Lulu.
