Since last you met in regular session, death has invaded the ranks of our public servants and esteemed citizens. From your midst we miss Hon. Samuel SMITH, ex-president of the Senate, a man of lofty ambition and undoubted integrity; ex-councillors John R GOURD of Cooweescoowee District, William BATT of Saline District, and Charles BART of Illinois District. Among others of our reputable patriotic officers and citizens who have been called to peaceful rest, we note ex-Senators S E GRAY, Charles STARR and Jesse SUNDAY and Dave RIDGE. All of these were faithful public servants and many of them filled offices of honor and trust in various capacities for a number of years. We should all feel grateful and render thanks to the Ruler of the universe for the bountiful crops which have blessed the county and the peace and happiness which have prevailed among our people.

Nov 4, 1897 Issue, pg 1 column 4: CHIEF BLUEJACKET PASSES AWAY Charles BLUEJACKET, ex chief of the Shawnees, died at his home, 12 miles north of Vinita, Friday night, at the age of 72 years. He came with his tribe to the Territory 30 years ago and had been their leader ever since. He was a tall, fine looking full blood, spoke good English, was an upright Christian and a good citizen. With him died a vast amount of Indian history, as he knew more of Indian traditions and legends than any member of the tribe.

Ft Gibson Post Newspaper, Ft Gibson I.T. Nov 4,1897 issue, pg 8 column 3 - Muldrow and Vicinity: W J WATTS of Wagoner was in town last Friday to attend the funeral of the late W F JACOBS. (later in the same column) Mr. W F JACOBS, and old and esteemed citizen, died at this place October 27, 1897, and was buried on the 28th with Masonic honors. Mr Jacobs was one of the best men in this entire section, loved and respected by both Indians and whites. He leaves a wife and five children to mourn the loss of an ever kind husband and indulgent parent.

Ft Gibson Post Newspaper, Jan 27, 1898 issue Page 1, column 1, Muldrow Items: The infant child of J W Breedlove died on Sunday last after a lingering illness. All that medical skill could accomplish was done. "The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away." Blessed be the name of the Lord.

Ft Gibson Post Newspaper, Jan 27, 1898 issue Page 1, column 1 & 2, Muldrow Items: Mrs. Nancy Leach, proprietress of the Leach Hotel, is very low and may die. She is a sister of J W Breedlove a very estimable lady. Later - Since the above was put in type Mrs. Leach has died and was buried yesterday.

Indian Journal Newspaper, Feb 15, 1894 issue, Page 4, column 3 SOUTH CANADIAN column: Mr Bud MITCHELL died at his home three miles west of here with pneumonia on Friday last. His illness was very brief. He leaves a wife and two children, with many to mourn his death. - N.C.
