The
photo is dated on the back March 29, 1915.
Back row, third from the right, wearing the bow tie is my grandfather, Guilford Lawton Smith. He came to Caddo
County, probably around Sickles or Lookeba, to teach from Arkansas.
In November 1916 he married Florence Harrell
who lived on her father's farm (he was Nick
Harrell) a couple of miles southwest of Sickles town, and then I
think he farmed and did not teach. They left the area for Arkansas
around 1919 when Nick Harrell sold
and moved to Creek County.
Anyone who knows anything about this photo can contact me at jejewell65@gmail.com. I would be
really happy to find out where it was taken.
Thanks very much,

There is another name but it is not legible due to a tear on the back.

Willie Salyer is the last boy on the right side, front row.

Second row left to right: #10 - #21
Back row left to right: #22 - #32.
Note:
this information received from Dorothy Kerlick.
I'm sure this was taken in
1943. Some of these didn't attend Binger before then because they
were in rural schools. This class was 2 years behind me and I
graduated in 1946--so this wasn't 1940.

to be Mountain View School that was near Cogar.

We have been able to identify Delbert Salyer who is in the front row,
5th from left. Based on Delbert's dob 1922, we
thought this may be ca. 1933.
Dale Salyer (dob 1926) is
in the 2nd row, 2nd from left.

Note from Dena
Tucker:
Melba Salyer is in the second row 7th from the left. She was born in
1925 so if it was 1933 that would make her 8, could this possibly be
1935??

1914 Broxton consolidated school
photo submitted by Hal Beumer
In 1913 five one-room schools (
Broxton, dist #68; Cash Valley, dist #57; Hale, dist #30; Hog Creek,
dist # 53; and Prairie View II, dist.#55) were consolidated into a one
school system. In 1914 the two-story building was finished and called
the Broxton Consolidated School.
The first school board members were
J.W. Coats, Philetus Bagley and Joe Hemming.
The first superintendent was Mr. Bates who had taught in one of the
one-room schools.
The first school wagon drivers were Frank Wiedemaier and Mr. McCollum.
The first janitor was Russell Rorth.
The first graduates were Hazel Roberts and Hazel Carl, graduating in 1917.
Broxton became an accredited school in 1926.

William Lanier married Marie O'Briant. I'm not positive what year this
was taken, but based on the dob of Buddy O'Briant, the earliest it could have been
was 1931. Based on the dob of Marie O'Briant, the latest it could have been was
spring 1934; my guess is probably 1933.
