Looking for info on Stephen JOHNSON died in 1909 near Healdton or Hewitt. His wife was
named Cora and she went back to MS after his death. Children by first marriage to Lenora DANIELL were George, Mary, Moses Coleman, Julie Bertha, William
Robert, Judge Creighton. Stephen was the sone of William Robert JOHNSON and Zamer SEWELL. There is a William R. JOHNSON, born 1848, listed in the
1910 census in Hewitt. There are other children named Walter,Curtiss, Doyle, Virgil and
Mary. Unable to locate any of this family after 1910.

I have a copy of a family bible record for my great grandfather (Ira Derritt Hamblin)
which shows the death of two of his children in Ardmore, OK in the 1890s. Could someone
possibly give me the name of a local paid researcher I could get in touch with to find out
if there is any existing records about him, or members of his family. I am also a
researcher, and would be happy to trade Virginia research if need be. At some point in the

Seeking descendants of James A. BROOKS (1834-1877) and wife, Martha Ann STROUD (1847-1935), formerly of Hood Co., TX. Their children
included Sarah Caroline (md. George HADDOCK), John Clem (md.
Charity Elizabeth PRUITT), Thomas J., Bryant Martin (md. May
Belle PRUITT) and James William "Will" BROOKS (md. Geneva BURROW).
Martha Stroud BROOKS md/2 John A. DRURY, c1879 in Texas and
moved to what is now Graham, OK, in 1889. They had two children: Ada (md. James M. JACKSON) and Norma DRURY (md. J.W. CANNON).
Martha was a member of the Missionary Baptist Church and the Rebekah Lodge in Graham,

James Holby RECTOR b. 1847 resided at Jimtown for several years prior to 1898. He owned a
ranch or a farm there and had at least three sons. He married a 2nd time to Susie E.
RECTOR and also had three children, Bertha Beatrice 1898, Arthur 1899, and Margaret. The
family moved to Healdton where they owned a boarding house. At the time of the 1910 census
Susie's mother Mary J. Swancy was residing with them. I would love to learn more of this

HIGHTOWER (0000) Wilson, Carter Co., OK
My paternal great-grandparents lived in Wilson, Carter Co, Okla for quite awhile. I
believe they went there after their son, Earl HIGHTOWER came back from WWI. My
great-grandfather was George Valandingham HIGHTOWER who died there in March 1929. His
wife, Mary May (SLANKARD) HIGHTOWER remained there in their
home until she got sickly about 1950. She stayed in the home of her son and his wife,
Ralph and Era (WILLIAMS) HIGHTOWER in Ardmore. She died in
1953 in a Pawhuska, Osage Co, Ok nursing home. Both she, George and Earl are buried there
in Wilson. Ralph and his wife are buried in Cushing, Payne Co, Ok. My grandfather, Lloyd
Eratus HIGHTOWER lived in Vinita, Craig Co, Ok from 1932 until he died in 1963. George and
Mary had 3 daughters and 4 sons of which I have info on. I have ancestry of both
lines-HIGHTOWER and SLANKARD.
Coincidentally, I know that there was another HIGHTOWER family there as listed in the
earlier copy of the Carter county history book. I saw it one time, but never did get a
copy of it. Since then, I have a HIGHTOWER database which includes some info on that
family. They would have been distant cousins, although I do not know if they were aware of
that. I would share any info on them that I have. I have not been to Wilson since about
1953 at the age of 10.

Jesse Wilk SKAGGS b.1865 Denton Co. Tx moved to Chickasaw Indian Nation soon after his
marriage to Martha KIMBROUGH. She died in Indiahoma in 1929
he died there in 1940. They are both buried in the Odd Fellow Cemetery. Their children
were: William Kos, Robert Ellison, Mary Elizabeth, Carrie , Birdie , Jessie Amellius, Iva
May and George Edwards. I believe he was a law man in the Indian nation and an
"animal doc" . I would appreciate any addition information.

Seeking any info on a widow named Mena WALTERS, age 64, who died 4/18/23 in Houston, Tx.
Her obituary stated her body was shipped that night to Ardmore, OK., but for some reason
she was buried in a family plot at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, Houston, Tx. The plot
belonged to my great grandfather and his second wife, August & Katherine RAIF.(We know
for sure this was not his first wife, as she is buried at St. Vincent Cemetery.) Mena's
death certificate states her parents, husband, & her place of birth were unknown.

1834 Morgon Co. Ky. Do not know when the family came to Ok. but William W. BROWN served
with the 5th mounted Inf. Co. C of the Orphan Brigade of Ky. CSA. I am seeking any info.

Bettie is considered herself the daughter of Chickasaw Robert Howard LOVE
and the slave of Col. Benjamin LOVE, Margaret Ann WILSON.
Bettie sought citizenship "by blood" in 1896 and was denied because of her
"African" blood. Bettie's husband, William Hadley LIGON was purported to have
been born in MO or TX. Either 1852, 1856, or 1850. He was better known as Hadley and his
death certificate states his birth in TX. If you have information pertaining to any of the
individuals mentioned, including the slave owners I would appreciate you Emailing me.

Isaac Christian was born in Missouri according to census records. His wife was the slave
of James McCOY a Chickasaw. Sally and Isaac were born circa
1840's. Sally also had a son (Jackson McCOY) by a Jim McCOY, thought to be her owner. I
don't have much on Sally and would be grateful for any information someone would have on
the slaves owned by the McCOY family.

I am looking for any and all information regarding Molsie Nee Hawkins. She was my great
grandmother and according to my grandfather, was a full blood Chickasaw. Her Dawes role #
however, has her listed as a Choctaw. She had twins one of which died at childbirth the
other was my grandfather J. George BAILEY who was born on
Nov. 14, 1912 in or near Ardmore Ok. . I believe she passed away around 1925-1930. Her
1894 role information had her living with a family with the name of LAVERSE,
and she is listed as a blood niece. My grandfather did not know his real father, and
consequently, took the name of his stepfather which was BAILEY. I am told my grandfather
did have some allotted land in Oklahoma, I believe near Ardmore, but he signed it over to
someone as a quickclaim deed before he left the state. My father believes that she is
burried somewhere near the town of Cheyenne, Oklahoma.

in Illinois then they came to Oklahoma. This family was in the Ardmore, Carter Co, area

Seeking info on my gr grandfather James Henry "Jim" BURROW, b. 1877 in Indian
Territory (OK), md Lela Mary TABOR (b. 1878 in Collin County, TX). They were md in
Tishomingo, Indian Territory (Johnston County, OK) in 1895. S. C. HIERONYMUS
performed the ceremony. Marr. license gives Jim BURROW's res. as Springer (Carter County,
OK) and Lela's res. as Reagan (Johnston County, OK). Jim and Lela moved to Eastland
County, TX in 1900. Jim's death certificate gives his parents' names as D. K. BURROW and
Diana HUTTON. Census records show Jim's parents' were born in
Missouri. Jim was a very quiet man and never spoke of his family. A brother once visited
him from OK brother's name is unknown. Have contacted a professional genealogist in OK
with success, have also been to state hist. soc. in Oklahoma City without success. Seek
info on parents of Jim BURROW, also info on church that pastor S. C. HIERONYMUS affiliated
with so I may check church records. Will gladly exchange info with others researching

of the century. His wife was Amanda Elizabeth WELCH and they

I am searching for ancestors of Nancy Hamilton HALL b. March 10, 1849, m.1867 to Richard
Jacob PUTMAN, d. January 9, 1941, buried in Wilson, OK. She
is my g.grandmother. I am finding it difficult to trace her family. My mother tells me
that Nancy's grandmother gave her the middle name of Hamilton, which was her maiden name.
She says the Hamilton's came from Ireland when Nancy's grandmother was 9 years old. Any
information on the HAMILTON/HALL genealogy that would help expand this branch would be

I am trying to locate the burial site of my ggrandfather John DANIEL. I was recently told
that he may be buried in a cemetery in Reck, OK. I do not know where that is. It is
possible that he is in Rexroat, OK. Is there someone who lives near there who can either
look up the cemetary record or even let me know the location of Reck, OK. No one in the
family knew this man and I have two possible burial dates. He may have died in 1925 or as
late as 1966. No one knows. Thanks for any info.

Henry Ellison SKAGGS, a CSA vet moved to the Ardmore area before 1894. He married Narcissa
GEORGE and they raised eleven children in this area, Jesse
Wilkes SKAGGS, Henry Ellison SKAGGS, Mary SKAGGS, William Phoenix SKAGGS, America Elllen
SKAGGS, Narcissa ESabella SKAGGS, Prudence Elizabella SKAGGS, Sarah Jane SKAGGS, Amanda
Catherine SKAGGS, Casius Edmond SKAGGS and Ida Lonora SKAGGS. Jesse married Martha KIMBROUGH and became a vetinerian, William married Bertha FERGUSON and was a minister of the Church of Christ. The family
married into the families of BARKER, PRUITT, DEBORD,WHITE and
ALTIZERs. Most of the men in the family were members of the
Masonic lodge and the IOOF. They lived in the Ardmore area from about 1894 to the 1940s.
This was a large, active pioneer family and we want to garner all the information we can

I am trying to locate cousins of a REEVES/REAVES that died in the early 1940's in Carter
County. I have read the Carter County Cemeteries listings, written to OKC for the death
record(no response), called the county clerk, county library. Mildred E. Hendricks
REEVES/REAVES died in the 1940's in the Ardmore area. The info I have is she was born in
Kaufman Co., TX and married in OK to John REEVES/REAVES. Children were Bondy/Bondie (son)
and another son and a daughter, Letcher B. Does anyone have a suggestion as to what I
might try next?

died at the approximately 18 months and was born around 1915 (probably in Ft. Scott, KS). I
need to obtain the dates of birth and death and verify where she is buried. My wife was
named for her and we have been looking for her for years. The parents of this Ruth
PATTERSON were my wife's grandparents. To aid in verifying that she is my wife's aunt, if
