Vernon Blake Dies Here After Lengthy Illness John Vernon Blake, age 75, pioneer resident of Sapulpa, died at his home at 702 South Independence street at 8 o’clock this morning after an illness of several years. Heart complications brought about his death. He is survived by his widow Mrs. Tillie Blake, and three sons, Ralph Blake, former Creek county treasurer of Oklahoma City, Leo of the home address and Cleo of Los Angeles, Cal. Blake was born in Fairfax, Vermont on April 27, 1865. He was reared in Jackson, Mich. He came to Fort Smith, Ark, in 1885 and was married to Miss Tillie Shoptaw in 1890. In 1893 he moved to Monett, Mo., and was employed by the railroad for 12 years. He came to Sapulpa in 1902. Blake was active in social and civil affairs. He was a member of the Oklahoma Consistory Lodge, Guthrie, and a life member of the Masonic lodge, 170 of Sapulpa. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Blake arrived here this morning early. Cleo Blake of California and family will be unable to attend services. Funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 o’clock at the Lewis and Landrith chapel with Rev. C. D. Todd of the Presbyterian church officiating. Burial will be made in South Heights. Pall bearers will be Fred Patrick, E. B. Mathews, E. L. Workman, D. D. Taylor, Jay Hotchkiss and George Willibey.
