Joseph R. Hammond died at 5:10 p.m. yesterday at the
Wheat Road Lodge.
Born Feb. 8, 1903 at Harrison, Ark., the son of
Findley and Mariam Hammond he was married to
Julia Gilreath Dec. 4, 1926, in Tulsa, Okla. Returning to
Winfield in June of this year from Shamrock, Okla.,
they had previously lived in the Douglass and
Winfield areas until two and a half years ago.
He was employed as a machinist at Boeing until his
retirement due to ill health approximately six years
ago.
Survivors include his widow; one daughter, Mrs.
Charles (Betty) Stiner, Winfield; three grandsons,
Churck, Kenneth and Robert, Winfield; and one sister
Mrs. Floy Hungerford, Hawthorne, Nev.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday at
the Swisher-Taylor Chapel with the Rev. John House
of Oxford officiating. Burial will be in the
Highland Cemetery.
