A Sapulpa man died instantly when his car crossed the center line and slammed
into an oncoming pickup on SH 66 Sunday, according to police.
The accident report indicated Gary Phillip Taylor Jr., 22, 707 E. Thompson, was
driving southbound on SH 66 north of 78th Street at 6:37 pm
According to the driver of the pickup, William Harold Bewley, 30, Collinsville,
as well as other witnesses, Taylor's vehicle crossed the center turning lane and
struck Bewley's pickup, the report states.
The speedometer in Taylor's car was stopped at 67 mph after the crash. He was
"killed on impact," the report reads.
Taylor "had the odor of alcoholic beverage about his person (and) a cold
opened can" of beer was found in the floorboard on the driver's side of the
vehicle, according to the report.
Taylor's body was transported by Creek County Ambulance to Bartlett Memorial
Medical Center, where blood samples were drawn to determine his blood-alcohol
content.
Bewley and the four passengers in his vehicle were not injured. All but one were
wearing seatbelts.
The pickup was pulling a horse trailer. Bewley said his family was on the way
home from Creek County Raceway after being rained out.

Gary Phillip Taylor Jr., 22, 707 E. Thompson, died Sunday at Bartlett Memorial
Medical Center.
Graveside services are scheduled for 10:30 am Friday in the Sunrise
Cemetery, Kellyville, with the Rev. Miland Martin officiating.
Burial will follow under the direction of Owen Funeral Home.
He was born in Santa Fe, N.M. and worked at Simple Simons Pizza. He attended the
Joy Christian Fellowship Church in Berryhill.
Survivors include father Gary P. Taylor of Tulsa; mother Mary East of Sapulpa,
stepfather David East; grandparents Priscilla LeMaster of Turley and Jack and
Ruth Seawright of Tulsa.
