Edgar Dwayne Hellard left this
world on Wednesday, May 25th at the age of 67. Dwayne was born
on January 1st, 1944 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Dwayne was raised in
the Sapulpa area and attended Sapulpa Public Schools.
He married Sally Moore and they had
3-children. He was a member of the Sapulpa Fire Department from
1966-1972, and he did construction work on his time off. He left
the fire department and started Hellard Construction. He later
worked for Sapulpa Rural Water Department. He loved animals,
always having them around the house while growing up. His
sisters remember a variety of pets, including squirrels,
raccoons, a calf, a crow and dogs. He continued as an adult,
owning deer, buffalo, Emus, skunks, horses and dogs. ‘Rusty’ dog
was his trusted companion in later years and stayed faithful to
him until the time of his death. He enjoyed piloting a
helicopter, hunting, fishing and horse racing. He raised a
garden and had several herds of cattle. He also drove a wagon
pulled by his white two mules.
He was preceded in death by his father
Edgar and his sister Karen Ray.
He is survived by his mother Juanita
Hellard of Sapulpa, his three children; Sheridan Tiger of Tulsa,
Sharla Howell of Piedmont and Bo Hellard of Sapulpa. Two sisters
June Cook of Sapulpa and Nita Jones of Sapulpa. His longtime
companion Jessie Mills of Pryor. Six grandchildren Brittany Topp,
John Dunbar, Cody Howell, Casey Howell, Ashley Hellard and
Cassie Hellard. Two great grandchildren and many nieces and
nephews and friends.
Services will be held at Westside Free
Will Baptist Church in Sapulpa, on Tuesday May 31st at 2:00 p.m.
Reverend Millard ‘Preach’ McGuire officiating. Interment at
Sunrise Cemetery.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Smith Funeral
Home, Sapulpa, OK.
