Witnesses to homestead proofs were usually neighbors to the homesteader or friends that know the homesteader's efforts. If you find a name you are interested and the listing just includes two numbers, township and range, they were a witness. They may or may not have a later homestead of their own. I followed the proofs published in the Arapaho newspapers from 1892-1906. More information on homesteading records.
