A Tribute To Her Mother

My Mother, Syble Potts Bonner, daughter of Sylvia McCarty who is buried here, was always concerned that Dripping Springs would be forgotten because it is located in the middle of nowhere. Many of the graves only had sandstone makers and Mom replaced as many of those as she could with headstones. I submit this information in honor of my Mother and Sylvia, the Grandmother I never had a chance to know, to ensure that this peaceful little family cemetery will never be forgotten. My Grandmother, Sylvia, is buried here. My Mother is not. She chose cremation and her ashes remain in Texas. " Momma, don't worry, as long a I draw breath and even after, in my children and my grandchildren, you and Dripping Springs will live on".

Dripping Springs is located East on the road that is Garvin/Carter Co. Line. It is way off
the road up an oil field road. The oil company keeps the road passable. It has been taken
care of by various persons over the years but had completely overgrown when Mary Current
passed away. Since that time Farris Current, Mary Joyner, Brenda Choate, Roberta Real,
Bill & Ruth Huckaba & their boys have taken care of mowing it. Jottie
Epley and family are now (2003) helping mow this cemetery. I helped
mow this cemetery by hand for 7 years but once I helped buy a riding mower and
the mowing was easier my so called sister, Roberta Agnes Real, decided that
since she has the mower, it was by invite only and I haven't been invited.
Just wanted to let you know that I was no longer involved in taking care of the
cemetery. This cemetery is a
small family cemetery which was part of William "Bill" and Henrieta Riddle's
Indian land allotment. Most everyone buried there is related to the McCartys (except
according to the McCartys) for a few people who were passing through during an epidemic of
some sort (diphtheria, small pox, ?) and the family allowed them to be buried there. Many
young McCarty children died during this same epidemic and are also buried here. Some in
unmarked graves.
