O. L. McCarty, 81, Pioneer dies
O. L. McCarty, 81 pioneer farmer-rancher of Garvin County, dies at 11:00am Tuesday at Robberson-Shirley hospital in Wynnewood. McCarty came to Indian Territory when he was one year old and had lived in this area since that time. McCarty at various times had lived at Elmore City, Pernell, Pauls Valley, and Wynnewood. At the time of his death he resided at 203 East Gardner in Pauls Valley. Mr. McCarty was a farmer/stockman for many years and retired in 1946. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Pauls Valley. Funeral services will be held at 3:00pm Thursday at the Church of Christ of Christ in Pauls Valley with Ray Russell, minister of the Wynnewood Church of Christ officiating. Burial will be at Whitebead Cemetery under the direction of Vaughn Funeral Home. Survivors include his wife, Betty, of the home; two daughters, Mrs. E. J. Current and Miss Juanita McCarty, both of Pauls Valley; two sons, Royal McCarty ad J. I. McCarty, both of Wynnewood; one brother, Jessie McCarty of Sinton, Texas; 17 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren. Brenda Choate
Mrs. Betty McCarty, 93, a long time resident of Garvin County, died Saturday in the Pauls Valley General Hospital. She was born June 14, 1879 in Arkansas and passed away September 9, 1972. She came to Oklahoma at the age of seven and has made her home in Garvin County since that time. Mrs. McCarty was a member of the Church of Christ in Pauls Valley. Funeral services were held at 2:30pm Monday in the Church of Christ in Pauls Valley with Ray Russell officiating. Burial was in the Whitebead Cemetery under the direction of Vaughn Funeral Home. Survivors include two sons, Royal McCarty, Wynnewood and J.I. McCarty of Pauls Valley; two daughters, Ethel Current, Pauls Valley and Jaunita Lovelace of Moore; 16 grandchildren and 50 great grandchildren. Brenda Choate
C. R. Gann dies at 69 Marlow
Chauncey Ray Gann, 69, Marlow, retired rancher and school teacher, died in a Marlow hospital Friday following a long illness. Born September 25, 1900 at Foster, he was a lifelong resident. He moved to Marlow about six months ago. Gann and the former Irene Ferguson married at Sulphur in 1942. He received a bachelor's degree from Northwestern State College at Alva. he was a member of the First Christian Church at Lindsay. Survivors are the wife, of the home, two sons, Dr. Jimmy Gann, of Thibodaux, LA, and Wayne Gann of Marlow, a daughter Mrs. Zora Johnson of Duncan. A sister, Mrs. Myrtis Wells of Wynnewood, a brother, Delbert Gann of
Duncan; and five grandchildren. Service will be in Callaway-Smith Funeral Chapel at 2 pm Monday with the
Reverend Curtis Ledbetter, pastor of Gospel Beams Church in Duncan officiating. Burial will be in Foster Cemetery. Bearers will be Don Douglas, Marcus Nash, Brigham Conner, J.R. Conner, Leo Stubblefield, and Mark Nash.

W. S. Tinney of Elmore who died last Thursday (Oct 5, 1905) was brought here last Friday and shipped to Markley, Texas for burial. He had been in feeble health for a long time. He was 73 years of age. His son I. J. Tinney and several other relatives and friends accompanied the remains here.
Funeral held for ex-cityan, Mary R. Payne
Funeral services for Mary R. Payne, 95 of Tecumseh, an early day resident of Pauls Valley, were held at 10 a.m.
Friday in the Capital Hill Funeral Home in Oklahoma City. Burial was in the Klondike Cemetery near Pauls Valley. Mrs. Payne died last Thursday in a Shawnee hospital. She was born in Sharp County, Arkansas and came to Pauls Valley in 1908. She moved to Oklahoma City 12 years ago. She had moved recently to Tecumseh. She was a member of the Church of Christ. She was a grandmother of Mrs. Delma Jones of Pauls Valley and aunt of Gilbert and Elbert Campbell of Pauls Valley and Mrs. Bill Bevers of the Brady community. Other survivors include five sons; W. L. of Chickasha, C. B. of Harrah, J. M. of Oklahoma City, J. C. and Ernest of Santa Ana, Calif.; five daughters, Mrs. A. S. Roberts of the home, Mrs. C. H. Fagin of Bellview, Texas, Mrs. Martin Jones of Olivehurst, Calif., Mrs. G. O. Salley of Santa Ana, Calif. and Mrs. Lonnie Roy of Oklahoma City; 148 grandchildren and 58 great grandchildren. Funeral services for Tressie Bevers were held June 17 at the Methodist Church in Wynnewood with the Rev. Dr. Jim Hewett officating. Mrs. Bevers died June 15 at Pauls Valley General Hospital. She was 91. Burial was
in Oaklawn Cemetery under the direction of DeArman Funeral Home. Mrs. Bevers, born in Missouri, moved to Oklahoma at an early age and lived in the Brady community. She was the last survivor of 14 children. She married W. R. (Bill) Bevers in 1920. Survivors include a son, Duane Bevers and his wife, Loretta of the Brady community; three grandchildren, Connie Hise of Richardson, Texas, Carolyn Bevers of Atoka and Ed Bevers of Lindsay and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers and sisters, her husband and son Claud. (Note: Tressie Campbell b. Apr 12, 1903 d.Jun 15, 1994 m. 19 Nov 1920 W. R. (Bill) Bevers b. Dec 20, 1901 d. Mrs. Wren
Services for Florence A. Wren will be held Wednesday, September 13, 1972 in the Freewill Baptist Church of Stratford. Rev. Vard Wood assisted by Rev. B. R. Wood will officiate. Mrs. Wren, 90, died Sunday in the Artesia Hospital of Artesia, New Mexico. She was preceded in death by her husband W. M. Wren and two sons; Johnny and Charlie.
Elisha John Current, 77, of 216 E. Monroe in Pauls Valley died October 4, 1981 at his residence. He was born November 2, 1903 in Texas and lived in Pauls Valley for the Past 46 years. He met his wife Ethel in Pernell, Oklahoma and they were married September 28, 1922 in Sulphur. Funeral services will be Wednesday, October 7 at the Stufflebean Funeral Home at 2:00pm with Paul Lakey officiating. Burial will be at Dripping Springs Cemetery near Pernell under the direction of Stufflebean Funeral Home. Survivors include his wife Ethel Current of the home; one daughter, Mary Joyner of Pauls Valley; one son, Farris Current of Pauls Valley; one sister, Mrs. Lena White of Big Spring, Texas; two brothers, Herman and Paul Current, both of California; nine grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. She passed away Friday, May 13, 1994 at the Colonial Nursing Home. She had resided most of her life in Pauls Valley. She and her husband Elisha John "Pat" Current were married September 28, 1922 in Sulphur, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death October 4, 1981. She was also preceded in death by her brothers John McCarty, O.J. McCarty, and Doyle McCarty, and sisters Goldie, Sylvia, and Jaunita. Survivors include one son Farris Current of Pauls Valley; one daughter, Mary Joyner of Pauls Valley; two brothers, J.I. Funeral services will be held for Mrs. R. L. Hurd at Stratford, Thursday afternoon at the Methodist Church, with Rev. Ragland, Methodist minister, officiating. Mrs. Hurd passed away at a local hospital. Stufflebean Funeral Home will have charge of arrangements. Interment will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery at Ada. Survivors include, her husband, R. L. 1911 in Tennessee and had been a Pauls Valley resident for the past 24

Mrs. Joe Davis, 81, a resident of the Pauls Valley area the last 79 years,
died at 11:40 p.m. Friday in the N. W. Lindsey Memorial hospital.
She was born Sept. 7, 1884 in Texas. She was a resident of 203 South Montie.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Stufflebean Funeral Home Chapel.

Thursday for Joe S. Davis, Pauls Valley resident and pioneer Oklahoman who died Tuesday.
Davis was born in Mississippi in 1881 and came to Oklahoma while still a child.
He was married to Sarah Elizabeth Malicoat in 1900.
J. M. Ward of Braggs, Okla. former pastor of the Pentecostal Holiness church here,
will conduct the services, assisted by Walter Little of Oklahoma City.
Survivors include his wife, seven daughters, Mrs. R. E. White of Canyon,
Texas, Mrs. Louveda Gosnell of Richmond, Calif., Mrs. I. L. Clark of Pauls Valley,
Mrs. Thelma Jackson of Oklahoma City, Mrs. Preston Talley of Pauls Valley,
Mrs. Jerome Roberts of Pauls Valley, Mrs. Emmitt Lewellen of Riverdale, Calif.,

"JUSTICE COYLE DIES HERE LAST THURSDAY".....L.C. COYLE, many years justice of the peace died at his home here last Thursday evening , aged 67 years. Mr. Coyle has been in ill health for many months and his death had been expected several days before the end came. He is survived by his wife and two sons, Bud and A.A. Coyle. WYNNEWOOD GAZETTE 17 Aug 1927 obituary.Mrs Martha Helen Coyle was born Nov 22, 1854. She was united in marriage to L.C. Coyle 46 years ago. To this union was five children born Mrs. Garnett Parks, Mrs. Delphia Johnson and Bud, Ben and Jess Coyle. There were three step-children Henry Coyle, Mrs. Ona England and Mrs. Ula Attaway. Also 28 grandchildren survive. At the age of 50 deceased united with the missionary Baptist church. Mrs. Coyle died Sat. Morn. at 8:00 at the Parks home 11 east of Wynnewood and was buried at 6:00 the same day in Oaklawn cemetery. Rev. J. C. Morris, pastor of the M.E. church, officiating.

Funeral services for Mat Malicoat, 84, will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday, May 27,

Territory and died May 25, 1973 at Pauls Valley General hospital. He

Mrs. Dollie Mae Beddo, 71, a pioneer of Garvin county, died at 7 p.m.
Wednesday at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Marvin Welch, 326 North Pecan
in Pauls Valley. She was born October 27,1893 in Oklahoma Indian
Territory and had lived in Garvin county all her life. Funeral services
will be at 2 p.m. Friday in the Stufflebean Funeral Home Chapel. Rev.
Walter Brown of Pauls Valley will officiate. He will be assisted by Rev.
Pail Jennings of Pauls Valley. Burial will be in the Antioch cemetery.

Fred Beddo, pioneer, dies.
Fred Beddo, 74, a resident of Garvin Co since before statehood, died
Tuesday of a heart attack while en route to a hospital from his home at
Elmore City. Beddo was born on Oct. 13, 1889 in Texas and had made his home
in Garvin county since 1904. He was a member of the Masonic lodge and the
Baptist church.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in the First Baptist church at
Elmore City. Rev. Hugh Colwell of the Satterwhite Baptist church will
officiate, assisted by Rev. Stanley Daniel of Elmore City First Baptist
church. Burial will be in the Elmore City cemetery under the direction of
the Vaughn Funeral Home.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs Effie Beddo of the home; four daughters,
Mrs Floyd Hicks of Okla City, Mrs Elizabeth Kennedy of Porterville, CA.,
Mrs Roy Wigley of Pauls Valley and Mrs Tom Parkey of Elmore City; two

Nate Choate (Nathan Lloyd Choate)
March 14, 1911 - Sept 24, 1987, Funeral services for Nate Choate, 76, of Wynnewood, who died Thursday,
Sept 24, at Pauls Valley General Hospital, will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Sept 26, at Stufflebean Funeral
Chapel. Rev. Ben Rodgers and Rev. Charles Newfield will officiate and burial will be at Oaklawn Cemetery
in Wynnewood, under the direction of Stufflebean Funeral Home. Choate was raised in Ringling, Okla. and
had lived in Wynnewood for the past 31 years. He was a retired farmer and rancher. He married Valley
Baker on Dec 27, 1932 in Pauls Valle. He was preceded in death by one brother, Earnest Choate, one
son, Kelly Deaune Choate, and one great grandson, Olin Kristopher Anthony. He was a deacon in the
Wynnewood Church of God. Surviving are his wife, Valley Choate, of the home in Wynnewood,
eight children, five daughters, Joanna Doss, of Alvarado, Texas, Retha Anthony, of Idalou, Texas,
Janora Foster, of Wynnewood, Cindy Popejoy, of Pauls Valley, and Sally Hamilton, of Wynnewood,
three sons, Leo Choate, of Midlothian, Texas, Ben Choate and Monte Choate, both of Pauls Valley,
four sisters, Alice Wigham, of Idalou, Florence Carmichael, of Petersburg, Texas, Nettie Switser, of
Brownwood, Texas, Irene Rumsey, of Ringling, Okla., one step-sister, Ellou Thurman, of Ringling,
Okla., two brothers, Homer Choate, of Newcastle, and Ollie Choate of Oklahoma City, one step-

April 19, 1951, Pauls Valley. C. W. Force, County Pioneer, Dies Monday
Funeral services for C. W. Force, 72, retired pioneer Garvin County merchant, were held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Stufflebean funeral chapel, with Brother Ray Russell officiating. He was assisted b y Brother Ralph Godfrey of the Church of Christ, and interment was in Mt. Olivet cemetery under direction of Stufflebeans. Mr. Force who was born in Nebraska January 31, 1879, died in the local hospital April 16th after a brief illness. Before coming to Pauls Valley about 10 years ago, Mr. Force operated a grocery store in Maysville for many years, and after coming to Pauls Valley, continued in the grocery business until retirement some time ago. Survivors include his wife, Lucinda Force, of the home addresses, 402 S. Pecan, Pauls Valley; two daughters, Mrs. Lula Mathews, Wilburton and Mrs. Harve Hays, Wynnewood; Four sons, Clude of Wilburton, Cluad of Torrance, California, Rayford D. (Jack) of Pauls Valley and Charles Kenneth of Oklahoma City, and one step-son, Albert Sales, of Torrance, California; 18 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Grace Brogdon, Konawa, and Mrs. Stella Sigman of Seiling, Okla., and two brothers, H.H. Death came to C. B. 'Lum' Richardson, Saturday morning, April 14th, in the Wynnewood Hospital. Mr. Richardson, a retired pioneer business man of Pauls Valley, had been seriously ill of a heart ailment for several weeks, but was thought to be improving and had been returned to his home at 621 E. Bradley more than a week ago. He and Mrs. Richardson celebrated, very quietly due to his illness, their Golden Wedding anniversary April 8th. Friday night, Mr. Richardson became critically ill again, and was rushed to the Wynnewood hospital where he died at 12:30 a.m. Saturday. Funeral services were held Monday at 2:30 p.m. in the First Baptist church, with Rev. Hale Dixon, pastor, officiating. Interment was in Mt Olivet Cemetery under direction of Stufflebean funeral home. Harold Freeman, a longtime friend of Mr. Richardson and his family, delivered a fitting eulogy. Pall bearers were Joe Curtis, Harold Freeman, Clarence Hyre, Henry Richter, Roy Perkins, and Tom Eastwood, Mr. Richardson, 70, was born April 30, 1881 in Parker County, Texas, and came to Oklahoma in 1898, when he settled in McClain county, where he engaged in farming. In 1921 Mr. Richardson and his family moved to Pauls Valley, where he engaged in the grocery business until 1932, when he retired due to ill health. A member of the First Baptist church, Mr. Richardson was also a member of the Masonic lodge and the Knights of Pythias, but had not been active in either of the two latter organizations for several years. S urvivors include his wife, Mrs. Ida Mae Richardson, of the home address, Pauls Valley; two sons, C. W. Richardson, Houston, Texas and C. B. Richardson, Jr., of Pauls Valley; six daughters, Mrs. Lela Harris of Houston, Texas; Mrs. Nancy Hanley, Pauls Valley; Mrs. Gladys Daniels, Shawnee,; Mrs. Ruby Gordon, Baytown, Texas; Mrs. Trixie Harms, Minden, La., and Mrs. Elwanda Newbern, Minneola, Texas. Two sisters, Mrs. Mary Lucas, Ripley, and Mrs. Leona Seratt, Pauls Valley, and three brothers, Will Richardson, Pauls Valley, and Frank and Jim Richardson, both of Byars. Twelve grandchildren, including Claud Harris, Jr., Kenneth Richardson, Joan Richardson, James Richardson Harms, Rebecca Lee Harms, and Columbus B. Harms, Billie Gail Gordon, Charles Richardson Gordon, Dianne Susan Daniles, and Ricky Ray Newbern.
Billy Keel Dead
Billy Keel, a Chickasaw Indian, died at his home west of Stratford shortly after the noon hour Saturday, March 17, 1923. Billy was unfortunate to fall into the fire and was burned considerably about six weeks ago, this along with poor health and old age is due to his death. Billy's age has never been learned but it is in the neighborhood of 70 or more. Billy leaves a wife, three sons and two daughters all living to mourn his death. Billy was a particular Indian in some ways, but a good scout. He was smart, no man's fool. He was liked by all who knew him. Bro T. N. Watkins, age 88, died at his home in east Stratford, Friday Afternoon, March 16, 1923. Bro Watkins had been in very poor health for some time. Bro. Watkins was a kind man, a Christian and has been a Baptist minister for years. He leaves a wife and several grown children (by a former marriage) and a host of friends to mourn his death. The funeral services were held at the Baptist church at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 17 conducted by Bro. Wells and the remains were laid to rest in the McGee cemetery. The Stratford Masons had charge of the funeral which order Bros. Watkins belonged. The family has the sympathy of the entire community in the loss of their beloved one. It is their los and heaven's gain.

died Oct 28 at a nursing home in Healdton. In Nov 1924, she married Jack Epley in Pauls Valley. She was
preceded in death by her husband and a son, Durwood Epley in 1987. Surviving are her son, Billy Joe
Epley, Ratliff City; two sisters, Aleta Tivis, Duncan and Cornella Burns, Denton, Texas; brother, Richard
Page, Duncan; six grandchildren, Kathy, Vance, Tina, Dennis, Douglas, and Durwin; 11 great grandchildren
and one great great grandchild. Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Harvey Fred Meyer, 83 of rural Pauls Valley, died March 14, 1982 in Pauls Valley General Hospital. He was born June 14, 1898 in Iowa and was a past master of Mission Grange in Riverside, California. He was a member of Glen Avon Grange in Riverside and was a Lutheran. Funeral Services will be March 16, 1982 at Bob Diggs Funeral Home Chapel at 2 p.m. with Reverend Ora Compton officiating. Burial will be Thursday March 18 in Crestlawn Memorial Park in Riverside, California. Survivors include his wife, Connie of the home; son Wally Dave of New London, Wisconsin; daughters, Sheron Jackson of Riverside, California, Candi Bever of Pauls Valley; brother, Emmett Meyer of Cambridge, Minnesota; nine grandchildren; and one great grandchild.
Orvil Story, brother of Joyce Clinton and Lottie Yoakum of Pauls Valley, died after a short illness March 7, 1982. Funeral services were held at Paso Robles, California on March 9, 1982.
J. J. Harrison
Josiah James Harrison, 101 of Lindsay, died March 16, 1982 in Lindsay. He was born October 14, 1880 in Bishopville, Maryland. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Elks Lodge, a farmer, rancher, miner and contractor. He married Rose Cantrell in October of 1929. She preceded him in death in 1973. Funeral services will be Thursday, March 18 at 2 p.m. in the United Methodist Church in Lindsay with Rev. Doug Thatcher officiating. Burial will be in Greenhill Cemetery under the direction of B. G. Bodyston Funeral Home. Survivors include one daughter, Marguerite Thompson of Lindsay; sons, Josiah Harrison III of Lindsay, Charles William Harrison of Lindsay; five grandchildren, James Timothy Harrison, Charles William Harrison, Robert T. Harrison, David Bishop Harrison, and John Josiah Harrison; two sisters, Lulah Galloway Ford of Kennedyville Maryland, and Ida Isabell Grey of Wilmington, Delaware.
Lillian Hazel (Popejoy) Wright
Lillian Hazel (Popejoy) Wright, Lindsay, died February 13, 1997, at Washita Valley Nursing Center in Lindsay, at the age of 81. She was born to Alfred Lee and Nanny Bell (Nolen) Popejoy on October 10, 1915, at Satterwhite, OK. She married James P. (Pete) Wright on September 24, 1933, in Lindsay. She was a homemaker and affiliated with the Pentecostal Church. Lillian was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She loved being with family and always wanted everyone to be happy. She always gave hugs or kisses or sometimes she did both. Mrs. Wright is survived by her husband; five sons, Clarence Wright and Bernard Wright of Chickasha, OK, Winford Wright of Cement, OK, James Wright of Lindsay and Glenn Wright of Oklahoma City, OK; two daughters, Virginia Wright of Ninnekah, OK and Hazel Woods of Maysville, OK; 21 grandchildren;
39 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; one brother, J.B. Popejoy of Roseville, CA; and two sisters, Bonnie Odom of Asher, OK and Deila Marcho of Santa Ana, CA. She was preceded in death by both parents; two sons; and two grandchildren. Funeral services were held Sunday, February 16, at 3 p.m. at Boydston Funeral Home Chapel, Lindsay, with Rev. James (Pete) WrightJames (Pete) Wright, age 91, of Lindsay, OK, passed away on January 16, 2002 in Chickasha, OK. He was born on January 13, 1911, in Cabaniss, OK to Fed Wright and Charity Edna Elmore Wright. He lived in Lindsay for the past 48 years. He was a farmer and oilfield worker and was employed with Hilliard Trucking until he retired at age 73 years. James was a member of the Holiness Church. He enjoyed playing dominoes and solitaire.
He is survived by his children, Clarence and Wanda Wright of Chickasha; Winford Wright of Cement, OK, Virginia and Dale Wright of Ninnekah, OK, Bernard and Mary Etta Wright of Chickasha, James and Jean Wright of Lindsay, Glen and Jean Wright of Oklahoma City, Hazel and Joe Dale Woods of Maysville, OK, 23 grandchildren and 45 great-grandchildren and ten great-great grandchildren, two sisters, Maebell Gibson and Lilly Condit of Lindsay.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Lillian Popejoy Wright. They were married on Sept. 24, 1933. She passed away in 1997.
Funeral services were Friday, January 18, 2002, at 10 a.m. in the B. G. Boydston Funeral Chapel with Sister Alice Wendling officiating and Rev. Troy Wright, assisting. Burial was in Greenhill Cemetery in Lindsay.
Pallbearers were James Wright, Bernard Wright, Troy Wright, Winford Wright, Dale Wright and Jim Wright. Honorary pallbearers were Mark Wright, Donnie Wright, Dennis Wright, Richard Woods, Joshua Wright, and Mike Wright.
Arrangements were with B. G. Boydston Funeral Home in Lindsay.

Lavern Anglin was born in Wetumka on August 22, 1918 to Gomer and Bertha Bachus. She died in her home on December 5, 1999. Mrs. Anglin had been a resident of Lindsay for over fifty years. During this time, she had been a close friend to many and served the community in many different avenues. She was an active member of the Church of Christ and participated in several programs sponsored by the church.
Mrs. Anglin was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel B. Anglin; grand-daughter, Samantha Schreck; and grandson, Michael Wayne Anglin.
She is survived by two sons, Harold "Buck" and Mark Anglin; three daughters, Myrna Stiver, Louise Morton and Danna Waters along with their spouses; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Lavern was a beloved mother and grandmother and will be missed by all.
Arrangements were with B. G. Boydston Funeral Home in Lindsay, Oklahoma. Services were held on Wednesday, December 8, 1999 at 1 p.m. in the Church of Christ. J. R. McChesney died suddenly Monday afternoon while sitting in his chair at home, 200 East Charles Avenue. Heart trouble was the cause of his death. He was 60 years old. Funeral services were held from the First Christian church, Tuesday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock, conducted by Rev. R.A. Brigham, assisted by Evangelist A. G. Smith. The many beautiful floral offerings and the large funeral procession bespeak the love and respect that the people of this community had for this distinguished business man and citizen. J. R. McChesney was born at South Bend, Oklahoma, September 29, 1867, where he grew to young manhood. In 1900 he established a bit and spur factory in Gainesville, Texas, and in 1910 moved to Pauls Valley, where he established the same line of business, which grew to be the largest bit and spur manufacturing concern in the United States. Prior to the World War, his business reached to many of the foreign countries, but since that time, owing to the automobile industry, his trade was on the decline, although still enjoying a splendid business. He was proficient in his work and was actively engaged in this line of business for more than 28 years. During the war, McChesney had a number of contracts with the government and ran his factory to capacity for twenty-four hours a day. Since that time he has made a number of large sales to the quartermaster department of the army. For twenty years, McChesney has been a leader in civic and road work in Garvin County. Mr. McChesney was a member of the Knights of Pythias lodge and members of the order were the pall bearers at the funeral. He was a patriot and during the war sacrificed both time and money in support of the cause. He bought liberty bonds to the limit and made speeches all over this section of the country, endeavoring to keep the home fires burning while our boys were "over there". He took an active part in everything that had for its object the up building of the town and community and was always especially interested in the good road movement. He was an honest, straight forward citizen and community builder. Mr. McChesney always enjoyed good health and his sudden death was a shock tot he community. His last words were addressed to his wife and they consisted of only three words, "I am gone." Members of the immediate family who are left to mourn their loss include his wife and nine children as follows: J. D. Mrs. Mary Jane Roberts
Mrs. Mary Jane Roberts passed away Thursday night at 8:30 o'clock, January 26, 1928, at Liberty, after a short illness. She was buried in Rosedale cemetery. Rev. Bud Pirtle conducting the ceremony, assisted by Rev. White. Mrs. Mary Jane Roberts was born in Marion County, Alabama, December 18, 1858. She was married to James M. Roberts in 1874. Afterward they moved to the state of Texas. Thirteen children were born to this union, eleven of this number being present at her bedside when the end came, two having preceded her in death. Mrs. Roberts has lived near Pauls Valley for the past thirty years and will be missed by all who knew her. Death came as a surprise after a short illness from influenza from which she could not rally. She was a devoted mother and a Christian indeed, having been a member of the Methodist church of Eldorado, Texas, for 45 years. Through all her suffering, she never complained and was kind to all she knew. Loving hands stood around her bedside and all that could be done was done. She leaves to mourn her loss, her husband and eleven children, as follows: A. R. Roberts, Borger, Texas, C. W. Roberts, Pauls Valley, G. W. Roberts, Seminole, Mrs. R. T. Also sixty-nine grand-children and twenty one great grandchildren, all of whom were present when the end came. We feel that our loss is heaven's gain. "When we wake from peaceful slumber, with the rose tint of the dawn, and when twilight shades are gathering, zephyrs whisper, she is gone. Gone to that celestial city, Gone to press the streets of gold, Gone where jasper walls are gleaming, Gone, it's glories to behold".

Mrs. Mary C. Brim, age 55 years and 12 day, wife of N. L. Brim, died at the family home at 207 South Gertie Avenue, on Sunday, January 15th. Interment was had at the Whitebead cemetery following services at the home at 2:30 p.m., Monday. Rev. Walter Douglass conducted the services. The family have been residents of this section for a number of years, living in the Whitebead and other nearby communities before moving to Pauls Valley. Besides the husband the deceased is survived by two sons and two daughters who are: Lee Brim, Mrs. M.A. Campbell, Mrs. S.A. Montgomery, and Burl Brim, all of this city. Solemn and impressive funeral rites for Dr. James R. Callaway who died Saturday afternoon at 4 o'clock, were held Sunday afternoon at 4:30 o'clock from the First Methodist church, conducted by Rev. R.A. Brigham, pastor of the First Christian church, assisted by Rev. Walter Douglass, pastor of the Methodist church. Burial was made in Mount Olivet cemetery. Doctor Callaway was taken ill with pneumonia late Tuesday afternoon, following a strenuous day's work, and went home from an official visit, which proved to his last call on a mission of mercy. He was one of the best informed men in Oklahoma, having at his finger's ends, statistics and other valuable information, not only in the medical profession, but in all lines of thought. He had recently read the complete works of Redpath's history of the world, and was re-reading Dicken's works. Doctor Callaway was born in Denton County, Texas, August 22, 1854. His parents moved to Idaho a few years later, but in 1870 returned to Texas, where he grew into manhood. He married Miss Francis Elizabeth Clemens at Decatur, Texas, January 20, 1867. The couple celebrated their golden wedding two years ago. Doctor and Mrs. Callaway came to Oklahoma in 1889, and settled on a ranch at Elmore City, where they lived for several years. They moved to Pauls Valley about 25 years ago, and lived in the same place for all these years. Besides his faithful companion, he leaves five children, one son, Dr. John R. Callaway, Pauls Valley: and four daughters, Mrs. W.W. Howerton, Pauls Valley, Mrs. F. L. Armstrong, Spokane, Wash., Mrs. Earl Witten, Pauls Valley, Mrs. Paul Ford, Billings, Okla.. Also one brother and three sisters, all living in Idaho. Besides grandchildren and other near relatives, and a host of warm personal friends. Doctor Callaway obeyed the gospel during his boyhood days, and entered the ministry when he was 19 years old, and in this line of work, showed marked ability, fidelity, consecration and religious zeal. In this line of work there soon began to unfold the sympathy and tenderness and sweetness of temper that characterized his entire life. He was exceedingly quiet and unassuming. He sounded no trumpet, made no noise and called no attention to his doings. He did his work without bustle or noise, yet his sympathies for others was so broad that he often went out of his way to render a service, speak a word of cheer or do some wayside ministry that would make the load a little lighter for some traveler to the grave. The unselfishness, the generosity, the quiet, unconscious power, the purity of thought and speech and life of Doctor Callaway attracted people to him and won for him without design or effort on his part, a high place in the hearts of his friends. Doctor Callaway was an elder in the local Christian church. He was a silent worshiper in the house of God, sitting with a prayerful and earnest face, doing his work peacefully, with absolute fidelity, carrying it on in his heart. The Sunday before his death he attended divine services with Mrs. Callaway, and tarried in the isles to shake hands with his scores of friends. The deceased was universal in spirit, and tolerant in the beliefs of others. He was vigorous and active up to the time he was suddenly stricken, and hence, 'died in the harness'. Not only will he be missed by his lonely companion and children, but by scores of families who, for more than a quarter of a century have called him into their homes to administer to the relief of pain and leave words of cheer and comfort that proved to be medicine for both soul and body. The large concourse of friends at the funeral service, the tender and impressive message by the pastor, the beautiful and appropriate music furnished by a choir of male voices, and the many beautiful floral offerings, bespeak the tender love and respect that this community held for this "grand old man", who "fought a good fight, finished his course and kept the faith". "One army of the living God, at his command we bow, part of the host has crossed the floods, and part is crossing now".
Tribute to Doctor Callaway
A beautiful tribute was paid to Dr. James R. Callaway by the Kiwanis Club at the Wednesday luncheon. Rev. L. D. Mitchell, chairman of the program committee for the day, called attention to the vacant chair, and the loving memory of the good Kiwanian who would be with us no more, and requested that the club with bowed heads sing softly one stanza of "Nearer My God To Thee". The song was rendered with much feeling by the membership of the club, and the effect was beautiful and impressive. Dr. Ralph Puckett of the Bureau of Health made an interesting talk on Health in the Public school. Rev. R. L. Flowers, evangelist, who is holding a meeting at the Methodist church made a splendid talk which was received well. A joint meeting of the Kiwanis and Rotary Clubs is being planned for the month of May at which time, John Brown, speaker of national reputation will be here, and make several addressed during the course of the day.

W.H. McCarty died at his home in this city Saturday morning at 12:15 o'clock, March 17, 1928, after a prolonged illness of more than three weeks, and during all these days of suffering the physicians entertained but little hopes for his recovery, hence his passing was not unexpected to the immediate family and the scores of warm personal friends. Funeral services were held at the Mount Olivet cemetery Sunday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock, conducted by Rev. L. D. Mitchell, pastor of the Baptist church, and the body of the deceased was laid to rest by tender hands who came to pay their last sad rites. Mr. McCarty was born in Lavaca County, Texas, July 25, 1862, and was a little over 65 years old at the time of his death. He married Miss Ada Briscoe in Texas in 1894 and to this union, seven children were born, two having passed on before. Besides his wife, his is survived by three sons and two daughters as follows: Grayson M. McCarty, Pasadena, Cal., Conway McCarty, Pauls Valley, Mrs. Eula Mantooth, Parsons, Kansas, Miss Sue McCarty, Pauls Valley. Mr. McCarty was a member of the Baptist church, and endeavored to live a faithful, consecrated Christian life. He was unselfish, generous and believed implicitly in the 'golden rule' of life. He was a friend to man, liberal minded, sympathetic and withal a good citizen. He was also a member of the Woodmen of the World, and tried to live in public what this order teaches in secret. Mr. and Mrs. McCarty came to Pauls Valley in August 1905, and here reared their family. f or more than 20 years he served as street commissioner of this city. the couple visited the Pacific coast last summer, but found no country that appealed to them, so they were happy to return to Pauls Valley to make it their home the rest of their lives. Mr. McCarty was a substantial citizen, hones in purpose and faithful to every trust committed to his care and keeping. He identified himself, as much as is possible, with every worthy cause and tried to assume his part of the duty and responsibility in all those things that had for their object the up building of the town and community in which he lived. The impressive words spoken by his pastor were a comfort to the family and a consolation to the scores of friends who stood around the grave, and the beautiful floral offerings were tokens of love and respect which gave expression at a time when words would fail. The pallbearers were: J. A. Lollar, Jesse Alexander, Forrest Thomas, C. E. Johnson, J. E. Johnson, and Bill Stone. In the passing of W. H. McCarty, another old landmark has been removed from Pauls Valley; another pioneer citizen "gone to that undiscovered country from whose borne no traveler has ever returned".

Bettie Jo, two year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. B.W. Beddo, died at an early hour Monday, January 9th, following a short illness. funeral services were held at the Antioch cemetery where interment was had. Mr. Beddo is County Weigher of Garvin County and has hosts of friends over the county who join in extending condolence to he and Mrs. Beddo.

Green was born Jan 18, 1889 in Texas and died at his home southwest of Pauls Valley, June 5, 1975. He was a farmer and rancher and had lived in Garvin County since 1910. He was a member of Love Baptist Church. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Dewey Green, Pauls Valley; three daughters, Mrs. Cleta Cochran, Pauls Valley, Mrs. Ireta Ward, Pauls Valley, and Mrs. Jimmie Sue Crull, Enid; three sisters, Mrs. Gladys Mosley, Ardmore, Mrs. Ethel Kaiser, Oklahoma City, and Mrs. Billie McGee, Oklahoma City; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet cemetery, Pauls Valley, under direction of Stufflebean Funeral Home.

Graveside services for burial of the remains of Reuben Littleton Philips, 71, formerly of Pauls Valley, are set Sunday at 2 p.m., in Mt. Olivet cemetery with Chaplain Van Drevendyk officiating. Philips died in Houston, September 13, 1973. He was born in Norman, son of May Siddons Philips and Reuben Littleton Philips. He attended school in Pauls Valley and graduated from the University of Oklahoma. His body was donated to Baylor College of Medicine for medical research.

Mrs. F. M. Tolbert, aged 71 years and 29 days passed away at her home in Pauls Valley at 3 o'clock Saturday afternoon, April 14, following an illness of about a year's duration. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, April 15, at 2:30 o'clock at the Stufflebean Funeral chapel, in charge of Rev. N. H. Kuykendall, pastor of the Church of Christ. Interment was made in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Miss Amelia Schwarberg was born in Wayne, Ill., on March 15, 1863. At the age of 13 years she was united with the Presbyterian church and in 1892, transferred her membership to the Church of Christ, of which religious body she was a member for 41 years. On August 24, 1879, she was united in marriage to Francis M. Tolbert in Wayne County, Ill., and to this union was born eight children, seven of whom, with the father survive. Children surviving included: I.R. Tolbert and Clifford Tolbert, Pauls Valley, Roy Tolbert, Davis, Frank Tolbert, Wynnewood, Mrs. B. L. Beacham and Mrs. Ralph Royse, Elmore City, and Mrs. E. C. Frederick, Jones, Okla.. In addition to the husband and children, Mrs. Tolbert is survived by three sisters, thirteen grandchildren, one great grandson and a host of other distant relatives and friends. Mr. and Mrs. Tolbert moved to the state of Kansas in 1889, and later in the same year moved to Oklahoma. for the past twelve years they made their home in Pauls Valley. Mrs. Tolbert was a real companion, a real mother and a real Christian and the influence of her life will be felt for many years to come.

Alfred Vaught age 73 years, passed away at the home of his son, B. A. Vaught on South Willow, Friday November 19 after an illness of nearly two years. Mr. Vaught was a native of Texas coming to Oklahoma from Red River county about twenty years ago. Mrs. Vaught died about two years ago. There are four sons and two daughters residing in Oklahoma and all present at the funeral. Service (sic) were conducted by Rev. Walter Douglas of the Methodist church Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the residence (sic). Interment took place in Mount Olivet cemetery."

Mr. Vaut had suffered for two years from high blood pressure with occasional attacks of paralysis and had never been able to be out of bed since that time. Mr. Vaut left a large family, most of whom still reside in Pauls Valley. C. E. Vaut, janitor at the court house, Mart Vaut, B. A. GILLEY, W. (William) C. aged 42, years died early yesterday morning of Complication of diseases, after an illness of little over three weeks,
and the remains were interred in the city cemetery under the auspices of the Odd Fellows lodge of this city, of which the deceased was a member. The
deceased leaves a wife and seven children. Mr. Gilley was a fine man, honest and upright, but he was in needy circumstances when taken ill, but the Odd Fellows administered to his ever need and did everything that could be done for he and his family Grandfather also belonged to the Woodmen Of the World and has a Woodmen of The World headstone. Burial Follows Services At Whitebead Cemetery
Funeral services were held at the Whitebead cemetery Sunday afternoon for Mrs. Marie Burkett, 18, who died early Sunday morning at the home of her father-in-law, H. G. Burkett, four miles west of the city. Death occurred about 1:30 a. m.
Curtis Camp, minister of the Church of Christ here, officiated. Burial was in the Whitebead cemetery under direction of the Stufflebeans.
Mrs. Burkett was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bert Loftis, who live on East Monroe street here. Her husband also survives.
MRS. POLLY HARMON DIES AT HOME OF GRANDDAUGHTER IN 96TH YEAR
Mrs. Polly Ann Harmon, one of Garvin county's first white settlers, died at the home of her granddaughter, Mrs. Knox Garrison, at 10 p. m. Wednesday. She was in her 96th year.
Mrs. Harmon was one of the county's few residents who remembered the Civil war. A native of Green county, Oklahoma, she was born on March 5, 1842, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Young Guthery. Her mother died when she was 10 years old.
In her early life she lived in Missouri and Oklahoma and in 1864 she moved to Texas, and the following year was married to John Harmon at Paris, Texas. He died in 1893.
Mr. and Mrs. Harmon came to Indian Territory and settled near what now is Pauls Valley in 1874, and she had lived in this vicinity since. She professed faith in Christ at Whitebead in 1883 and had lived a devout life since that time.
Funeral Services for the county pioneer will be held at the Whitebead cemetery at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon with Rev. Fred J. Cox, pastor of the Trinity Baptist church here, officiating. Burial will be under the direction of the Stufflebean Funeral home.
The survivors include two grandchildren, Mrs. Garrison and Birdie Brauskin of Oklahoma City, nine great grandchildren and four great, great grandchildren.

Mrs. Polly Harmon Buried Friday At Whitebead
Funeral services for Mrs. Polly Harmon, a pioneer of Garvin county who died Wednesday night, were conducted Friday afternoon at the Whitebead cemetery, with Rev. Fred J. Cox, pastor of the Trinity Baptist church officiating.
Burial was in the cemetery at Whitebead, where Mrs. Harmon lived for many years, under the direction of the Stufflebean Funeral home.
Mrs. Harmon, who died at the home of her granddaughter, Mrs. Knox Garrison, was 95 years old. She came here with her husband in 1874. Mr. Harmon died 44 years ago.

Death of Mrs. Wise
Lindsey News, Lindsey, Oklahoma January 22, 1911
Mrs. J. E. Wise died at her home in this city at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 18, 1911 aged 66 years and 5 days. Pneumonia was the cause of her death. The funeral took place Jan. 19, a brief service being conducted at the family residence by Elder Arteberry. Burial is Green Hill Cemetery. Lucinda J. Underwood was born at Lebanon, Illinois, Jan. 13, 1845, and was united in marriage with J.E. Wise at Looney Springs, Illinois Nov. 18,1866. They moved to Texas some years later coming to Lindsay eight years ago. To this union seven children were born, four of whom survive; two live in Texas and two, Henry Wise and Mrs. A.W. Winford are residents of this city. The deceased was a member of the Christian Church with which body she became identified forty years ago. She was a good woman and her taking away will be mourned by many friends. To the aged husband and other relatives, the News extends sincerest sympathy.

Mary L. Harrison, 91, Pioneer, Dies
Mrs. Mary L. Harrison, 91, a resident of Pauls Valley for 70 years,
died Friday. She was born Dec. 26, 1866 in Tennessee. Funeral services
will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Stufflebean Funeral Home chapel with
Rev. Hale Dixon officiating, assisted by Bill Bravard. Burial will be in
Mt. Olivet cemetery. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Walter Yeary of
Pauls Valley and Mrs. John Paddack of Asher; one son, Claud Couch of
Houston, Texas; two stepchildren, Mrs. George Groomes of Amarillo,
Texas, and Mrs. Bonnie Godfrey of Sand Springs; 20 grandchildren, 38 great
grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.

John Marvine "Pete" Alexander
Services for John Marvin Alexander, 87, will be held Friday, Jan. 31 at
11:00 a.m. at the First Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Brad Ransom
officiating. Interment was at the Anticoh Cemetery under the direction of
Clagg Funeral Home.
He was born on Saturday, July 3, 1915 in Byars to John Davis Alexander
and Demie Ferguson Alexander. He died Monday, Jan. 17 in Kerrville, Texas.
He lived his early life in the Maysvillie area where he attended
school. He served in the Army and Air Force. He had worked as a farmer.
He is survived by three sisters, Mildred Albright and Selma Guthrie,
both of Oklahoma City and Leona "Russle" Dean, Lompoc, Calf.; two nephews, Roy
and Novis Thompson, both of Sulphur and one niece, Betty Sutherland,
Boerne, Texas.

Marguerite Baker, 8 year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A.L. Baker of the
McCarty Community, passed away at the home on Sunday, March 18, 1934.
Funeral services were held on Monday, March 19, 1934, at the Klondike
Cemetery, with Rev. A.D. Muse, pastor of the First Baptist church,
preaching the sermon. Interment was made in the Klondike Cemetery.

Largent Rites
Held Saturday
Funeral services for Francis Marion Largent, 60, long-time resident of the
Purdy community, were conducted in the Assembly of God church Saturday with
the Rev. G. W. Hathcock officiating, assisted by Fred James of Marlow. Mr.
Largent suffered a stroke Wednesday and died about noon May 23. He was a
native of Orr, Okla., born March 30, 1893. He moved to the Purdy community
with his family when he was six.
On Sept. 4, 1911, he married a Purdy girl, the former Beulah Robberson.
The couple had 7 children, five surviving
.
In addition to his widow by three sons, Horace. Alton, and Bert Largent,
all of Lindsay: two daughters, Mrs. Helen Hunt and Mrs. Jessie Canada,both
of Archer City, Texas: 15 Grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Interment in the Purdy cemetery was under the direction of Brown Funeral Home.

Aaron Mantooth, age 73, died Saturday at the home of Ed Self on Cash Charles Ave.
after a prolonged suffering due to the illness of old age. Mr. Mantooth made his home
with his daughter and son-in-law Mr. and Mrs. Ed Self. Funeral services were held
at the residence Sunday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. Rev. Thomas P. Haskins, Pastor of
the First Baptist Church officiating.
Interment was made immediately following in Mount Olivet Cemetery.

Pauls Valley. He married Harriet Ellen Vandyke. She is also buried in
Mt. Olivet Cemetery. She was born 6-10-1861 in Illinois and
died 12-17-1937 in Pauls Valley.

Well Known Long Time Resident Dies Suddenly Here Saturday Night
Funeral services for Roy Davidson, 51, were held Wednesday morning in
the Stufflebean Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Frank A. Grubbs, pastor
of the First Christian Churck officiating. Burial was in the Shawnee
Cemetery.
Davidson was stricken at his home southwest of Pauls Valley Saturday
evening and died at the home of his brother, Ralph Davidson, in Pauls
Valley.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Ruby Davidson; a son, Clarence; a
daughter, Mrs. Bernice Brisco of Dallas; three sisters, one brother,
and his mother, Mrs. Josephine Davidson of Pauls Valley.
Out of town relatives and friends attending the funeral services here
included Mrs. Edward Stewart, Los Angeles; Mrs. Claude Stewart, San
