Born November 16, 1840 in Rutherford County, Texas

Died October 27, 1895 in Wynnewood, I.T.

Buried at Whitesboro, Texas

He died after being injured in a buggy accident near Wynnewood which occurred while he was on his way to visit his deathly ill mother

David came to the Wynnewood area in 1892 where he made his living operating a mercantile/dry goods store

He built the first brick building in Wynnewood where Lawrence Street is named in his honor

He was a charter member of the Presbyterian Church in 1894

In 1884, they were living in Bell County, Texas, then moved to Wapanukca, then Boggy Depot, and later to the Wynnewood area before moving to Maysville

The military designation above is taken from the Confederate Roster.  He enlisted July 18, 1861 at Springfield, Arkansas

He signs as M.D. Lankford on several applications for the Cross of Honor.  He is mentioned in a Wynnewood paper of September 3, 1903

While living in the Boggy Depot area he captured many outlaws

Matthew was a minister
