Born in 1836 in Rutherford Country, Tennessee.
He was listed in the 1900 compilation of Confederate veterans,
which was printed five years later as the "Chickasaw Souvenir"
by the Daily Ardmoreitte. This particular list may have been
made up largely of those attending the 1899 reunion in Sulphur.
In the compilation, Smoot's residence is listed as Walker,
northeast of Wynnewood.
