In the 1910 census, he is living in the Walker district, northeast of Wynnewood. He was a "boarder" but gave no occupation. He says he is 67 years old, making his birthdate approximately 1843. 

In the 1899 list of Confederate veterans attending the first reunion of Confederate veterans in the Chickasaw Nation, he listed his address as Buckhorn. 
In 1866 or 1867, he married Misseyner N. Morris. A daughter, Julia Lou Ella Ward, was born in 1868. She died in 1945 and is buried in McGee Cemetery in Stratford. (Julia married Joseph Gladney Burleson on October 20, 1889.)
