Gateways to Map Links by Town

Click on the county name to get a alphabetized list of populated places with clickable links to the specific maps showing each one.   All counties have the DoT list of places & locations, with links from each place to the applicable 1895, 1915, and 1972 maps.  Section-Township-Range is included, where known, and each page includes a link to the complete set of township maps for that county.

About the Maps

The oldest maps included in this index are from the 1895 Atlas and Gazetteer posted by Pam Rietsch.   For some time, this now-famous project was the only on-line source of information about many communities that existed briefly during territorial days. You can explore the complete set on Pam's site or can use our Links to 1895 Maps to get to the right maps if you aren't familiar with the geography of Oklahoma and Indian Territory.

The 1915 Transportation Atlas shows railroads and their stations, trolley lines, and natural features like rivers, creeks and mountains as well as "Cities, Towns & Villages".  It includes many places founded after 1895, some of which have disappeared completely from later maps.  Go to 1915 State & County Maps  to explore the complete set.

The county maps from 1972 were scanned from a US Geological Survey Map that shows "Population Centers", including a number of communities now too small to have their own Post Offices.  These maps show Township and Range Grids, which are useful for comparison with older maps in trying to pinpoint locations of long-gone towns, or in finding the corresponding, more detailed present-day map.  To explore the complete set, go to 1972 County Maps.

The present-day County Maps are from the Oklahoma Department of Transportation. The original, downloadable versions were scanned by Mike Taylor [for details, see his Oklahoma Towns page] and have been available from OKGenWeb for several years.  The viewable versions are reductions of those original images and the detailed township maps are cropped images that preserve the original details by presenting only one 36-section Township on each screen.

County/Township maps, with Section-Township-Range grids, are being prepared by Sharon Crawford.  Each county map shows the Township boundaries and names against a background of Section-Township-Range grids and provide the locations of many obscure towns.  Township names are not unique, but if that's all you know this site will help you find all counties that have one by that name.  To explore this set of maps, go to Sharon's site.
