"William Taylor, son of Basil Manley Taylor & Dicie Williams of Trenton, was a Private in Co. H, 12th TN Inf., CSA, enlisting Aug. 31, 1861 at Camp Brown. At the Battle of Shiloh, he was wounded through the wrist and hand, leaving him a life-long handicap. He married first in Trenton, Elizabeth Virginia "Jenny" McRee, daughter of John Isben McRee & Cynthia Weddington. She died after bearing him a son and a daughter. His second wife was Frances Elizabeth "Fannie" Enochs, daughter of Alfred Hays Enochs & Mary Frances Walker of near Newbern in Dyer Co., TN. They had four daughters and two sons. In 1891, the family, with the exception of one son, Abb, relocated to Oklahoma, settling near Altus. William helped to organize the Altus, OK Confederate Veterans and was affectionately called "General" by the group. It was his wish to be buried in his Confederate Uniform at his death, and the request was honored." William is buried in Altus Cemetery.
