May 9, 1901
Mr. Doss Lyles of Plue Valley and Miss Lizzie Busby of Dunbar were married last Sunday
(May 5) at the home of the Bride. Rev. Ray officiated. The News wishes this young couple
much joy through their married life.
May 9, 1901
Clarence T. Johnson, one of Altus' active young business men left Saturday for Waco where
Tuesday (May 7) at 6:00 P.M., was married to Miss Mary Holt of that city. The Young couple
are expected to arrive here today where they will reside.
August 22, 1901
Mr. Charles S. Maupin and Miss Pearl Weir, both of this city, were married at Mangum the
first of the week (Aug. 19). They were at a social at Mr. Wimberley's Monday night. Went
from there to Mangum and were married. The News wishes this newly married couple all the
blessings there are in a happy married life.
August 22, 1901
Mr. J. W. Stout of Paris Texas and Miss Lennie Stewart were married at the Presbyterian
Church, six miles north of Altus, last Sunday evening (Aug. 18). Rev. W. W. Orr of
Corsicana, Texas, officiated. Mr. Stout is the son of Mr. And Mrs. T. K. Stout, living
just south of town, and Miss Stewart is the daughter of Rev. and Mrs. E. P. Stewart,
living north of town. The young people will make their home at Paris, Texas. The news
extends congratulations.
September 12, 1901
Married at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Johnson, in the eastern
part of the city, at 9:30 o'clock a.m., Sunday September 8, 1901. This was one of the
prettiest weddings it was ever our pleasure to witness. There was no ostentation nor
perplexities that usually attend the weddings of this day.
The bride's dress was white Paris Monssiline made over white taffeta, trimmed in silk
applique and the groom wore the conventional black neat fitting suit.
Mrs. R. E. Dunbar played Mendelsshon Wedding March while Rev. Walker in a pretty and
simple manner pronounced the words that united these two young people as man and wife.
Miss Ludrie is the beautiful and accomplished daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Johnson of
this city and has been an efficient teacher in the Vernon Public School. Mr. Farrell is
the efficient and worthy postmaster at Vernon, Texas.
October 10, 1901
Married at the residence of J. L. Sumrow, October 6, Mr. Harrison Wells of Yeldell, to
Miss Emma R. Adams of Lock, O.T., the Rev. J. L. Sumrow officiated. Mr. Wells is a
successful young school teacher and farmer, built of that kind of stuff that makes men
succeed: and Miss Emma is one of our brightest and most amiable young ladies.
October 10, 1901 - phoned from Vernon Texas
Married at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Boyd in this city at 10
o'clock a.m. today, Mr. Will L. Stinson and Miss Nola Boyd were happily married, Rev. A.
J. Tant, officiating. Mr. Stinson is the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Stinson, for
many years lived near Navajoe. Miss Boyd is one of Vernon's amny beautiful daughters.
October 17, 1901
Guy Gamble and Miss Ella McMahan left Sunday for Dallas and from their suspicious looks
before they left we will bet a dollar to a doughnut that they will not return single.
October 17, 1901 - Double Wedding
A double wedding took place at the church six miles North of the city last Sunday night
(October 12). The contracting parties were Professor S. D. Stewart and Miss M. H. Mitchell
and A. E. Leach and Miss J. L. Mitchell. The Misses Mitchell are the daughters of our
efficient county surveyor, William Mitchell. Professor Stewart is one of the teachers in
our city school and Mr. Leach is one of our interprising merchants.
October 24, 1901
At Anadarko, at 2:00 o'clock p.m., Monday, October 14, Mr. Guy Gamble and Miss Ella
McMahan of this city were happily united in the holy bonds of matrimony. Rev. Mr. Parker,
a Congegational preacher, officiated. Mr. Gamble is one of Altus' young and active
business men and Miss Ella is the beautiful and accomplished daughter of J. R. Mamahan,
druggist at this place. For some time past, she has been bookkeeper in the People's Bank
here.
The young people took their many friends by surprise, and for a little novelty, went to
Anadarko and were married. The News joins their many friends in wishing them a long, happy
and properous married life.
November 7, 1901
Married at 8 o'clock p.m. Wednesday, (Nov. 6) at the home of the bride's parents at
Navajoe, Mr. R. E. Taylor and Miss Edith Mitchell. Mr. Taylor is one of Navajoe's leading
business men and Miss Edith was one of our sister town's fairest daughters.
June 5, 1902
Sunday afternoon was a record breaker for marriages in this part of the county.
William E. Corn of Norman, O.T., was married to Miss Jessie Lee Howse, a charming daughter
of Captain and Mrs. Ambrose Howse.
Alfred French and Miss Minnie Talkington were united in the holy bonds of wedlock at the
home of the bride's parents north of town.
J. W. Dicks of this city and Miss Etta Hawkins were married at the home of the bride's
parents near Navajoe.
August 21, 1902, from the Quanah Tribune
Marriage licenses were issued this week to W. O. Kelley and Miss Effie V. King; J. C.
Beard and Miss Willie Adams, all of Greer County.
October 30, 1902
Married at the the residence of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. T.R. Fears, near
Headrick, Thursday evening, October 23, 1902, Mr. Luther Wisdom, of Fairfield, MO. To Miss
Clara Fears. Rev. R. J. Morgan of the Baptist Church officiating. The happy couple left
Monday for Fairfield, MO. where they will reside.
