Generation No. 2

   2. Joseph Robinson Griffith, born September 27, 1854 in Edgar County, Illinois; died April 30, 1935 in Bristow, Oklahoma, Creek County. He was the son of 4. Orville Griffith and 5. Rachel Finley Bartlett. He married 3. Mary Jane Stout October 31, 1887 in Shawnee Mission, Kansas/Quapaw Indian Agency, Indian Territory, Oklahoma (Source: Marriage Certificate issued Oct. 31, 1888 in the Quapaw Indian Agency, Indian Territory, Oklahoma.).
   3. Mary Jane Stout, born October 21, 1871 in Baxter Springs, Cherokee County, Kansas; died April 27, 1935 in Bristow, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of 6. Charles Maitland Stout and 7. Martha Adora Leach.

Notes for Joseph Robinson Griffith:
Married in Quapaw Indian Territory in Kansas in 1887, Joseph Robinson Griffith and Mary Jane Stout are placed in Seneca, Missouri one year later for the birth of their first son, Leslie Harrison. Mary Jane, "May," their second natural child, was born in Logan County, Oklahoma, in 1892. This places them in Oklahoma during or shortly after the "1889 Oklahoma Land Rush." Interestingly, all of their children were born in Logan County.
Guthrie, Oklahoma was one of two railroad stations particularly well suited for urban development. In fact, it is said that Guthrie was built in one day. Guthrie, Oklahoma, is also the birth place of Edward Mulhall, the husband of Joseph and Mary's daughter, Elsie Fay. Family documents also reference Owasso, Oklahoma, which is located in Logan, County.
The family must have maintained roots in Seneca, Missouri, as that is where their oldest daughter, May, met her husband, James Marion Hughes. The Griffiths moved to Bristow, Creek County, Oklahoma, some time after all of their children were born.

More About Joseph Griffith and Mary Stout:

i. Juan Stout (adopted), married Delight.
Juan was born into the Stout family and was brought to Mary Jane (Stout) Griffith and her husband, Joseph Robinson Griffith, after a tornado, on a pillow, with nearly "every bone in his body broken." This is an obvious exaggeration but Juan was probably badly traumatized by the tornado. He was reared by Joseph and Mary Jane Griffith and graduated from Bristow High School. He supposedly was a pretty good football player.
Juan was in the Army Air Force during World War II and served as a bombadier/nose gunner in either Boeing B-17s or B-24s (Consolidated Liberators).
