My grandfather, Vane L. "V. L." TATE (b. 13 Jan 1908, Russell, Russell Co., KS) was raised in Texhoma, Texas Co., OK. My GG grandfather, Peter Isaac "P.I." TATE was a citizen of Mulhall, Logan Co., OK from about 1894 until 1909. P.I. TATE owned the City Meat Market and was Marshall for Mulhall in 1902.
Peter Isaac TATE (b. IL 06 Oct 1858) m. 1881, KS to Estella MICHAEL (b. IN, 1862). 1900 Census, Mulhall, Logan Co., OK with children, Rosetta, Mabel, Viola, Pleasant, and sister-in-law, Viola DAVIS( b. IN). Rosetta m. Norman ROGERS. Mabel m. Arthur SHULL. Viola had one child out of wedlock, Vane L. TATE, before she m. 1909 to V. A. (Virgil) SMITH. Pleasant TATE m. Mary Ellen "Ella" DYKE and family history says Pleasant migrated to KS and then MI.
Many of Peter Isaac TATE's seven half-brothers settled in northeastern Oklahoma (Dewey & Bartlesville, Washington Co., OK and Nowata, Nowata Co., OK). His only full brother, Marcus Alfred "Mack" TATE, resided in IA. Rosetta (TATE) ROGERS and Mabel (TATE) SHULL both were teachers and upon migrating to Texas Co., OK filed land claims.
GGG grandfather Pleasant Alfred TATE (b. Edmonson Co., KY 1837). In 1880, Pleasant was residing in Liberty, Osborne Co., KS with his second wife. He m. Powshiek Co., IA 1865 Sarah Margaret BARNES (b. Park Co., IN 1849) and four of their eleven children (Grenville Thomas, Henry Rise, Adella Elmira, Amzella Catherine, William Vernon, Seth Curtis, Nathan Elijah, Zedakiah Mercer, David Elmer, Orey Asle, Jesse Leroy). Two sons, Peter Isaac TATE and Marcus Alfred TATE, from his first wife Hanna KIGER (b. OH ca. 1841) also lived with them. She died of childbed fever in Warren County, IL ca. 1863.
