After service in the Rhineland and Ardennes campaigns, and in the occupation of Germany with the 794th AAA AW Bn., Sgt. Reed was honorably discharged from the Army in January 1946.
Following his graduation from the University of Oklahoma in 1950, early in 1951, Reed was recalled to extended active duty with the Army during the Korean War.
He served in Germany as a Lt. in the 107th FA Bn., 28th Division.
He was released from active duty late in 1952.
Commencing in 1954 he served in the Active Army Reserve in Colorado with the 3rd Bn., 354th Regt., 89th Division until his retirement as a Major in 1970.
