This obituary of my great grandfather, Grant Redman, typed on the stationery of Pastor W. R. Gibble of the First Christian Church. My grandmother, Hattie Bell REDMAN, born 1894 in Fanine County, Texas, was his daughter. Other children include Fannie, William, who went as Oscar, Elmer, Dennis, Ruth, and Leonard. The address on the stationery is "Ash and Noble", which I believe refers to the church at 402 East Noble. The phone number is listed as 1080, another indication of simpler times. The obit follows exactly as written, including punctuation and spellings. |
Grant Redman was born Jan. 6, 1868 in Indiana and passed from this life May 5th, 1936, at his home in Guthrie after a very short illness. Aged 68 years, 4 months, and 5 days. His early life was spent in Texas. |
Mr and Mrs Redman came to Guthrie 37 years ago. Mr Redman has followed several lines of work since coming here. He serves 3 years as a street car motorman, and 15 years as an officer of the law, after which he was engaged in the oil business which he was following at the time he became disabled some five or six years ago. Early in life he became a member of the Baptist Church. About three or four yeas ago Mr and Mrs Redman became members of the Christian Church. |
He leaves to mourn his departure his wife, Mrs Redman, 4 sons, Elmer of New Albany, IN, Oscar of Okla City, Dennis of Guthrie, Leonard of Dalas Texas. Three daughters, Mrs Alfred Padgham of Guthrie, Mrs R. A. Wells of Harrisburg Pa. and Mrs Carl Kays of Indianapolis Ind. And also 13 Grandchildren, 2 great grand-children and one brother. |
Mr Redman was well known in Guthrie and leaves a great host of friends who will remember him. |
