Mary E. Kirkpatrick was born at Freeport, Illinois, November 30, 1846. She was united in marriage to J.S. Blakesley on March 27, 1864. They traveled extensively, but located in Kansas in 1876. They lived in Kansas until the opening of Oklahoma, coming here on the opening day and located on a claim about three miles southeast of Mulhall, where they resided until a few months before her death, at which time she came to Mulhall to take treatment. There was born to Mr. and Mrs. Blakesley, ten children; six sons and three daughters are living; one dead. All living children were present at the funeral, except one son, who lives at Wakita. He started, but missed train connections, and was unable to get here in time. Mrs. Blakesley's ailment was stomach trouble, and every kind of treatment was tested for her, but there seemed no relief, and, gradually, in spite of all that medical attention and devoted care could do, wasted away, the end coming on the evening of March 21, 1910. The funeral was held from the First Christian church here, the funeral services being in charge of Elder C.C. Atwood, who had just closed a series of meetings at the church. Interment took place immediately at the closed of the service at Roselawn Cemetery. Mulhall State Journal |
