This is a picture of my great grandfather, George D. Hansel, far left in Heilman's Saddlery, Guthrie, OK. To the far right stands P. J. Heilman or his son Earl? I cannot identify the man and woman in the center.
George Daniel Hansel was born in 1871 in Berlin, Germany and emigrated with his family to Kansas in 1880. The family settled in Emporia. The family story is that George came to Oklahoma for the land run in 1889, but he drew the number for land that was set aside for the courthouse town square in Perry (Perkins?), OK. So he came to Guthrie. He is in the City of Guthrie Directory for 1892 listed as "harness maker - Heilmans shop." Also, for years 1894, 1898, 1907-08. He is also on the 1900, 1910, and 1920 census for Guthrie.
