This log cabin was built of native oak logs in 1889 by Mr. Ward Richey five and a half miles south and a half mile west of Guthrie. The cabin is still standing in its original location on the Scheihing Homestead, currently owned by Gerhard Labay. The Homestead relinquishment was purchased by C. W. Scheihing from Mr. Richey in 1891. Mr. Scheihing then added the lean-to addition on the left of the picture (east side of the cabin) for a kitchen.
Standing in front of their home about 1894 are, left, Eleanore Römer Scheihing (19 Feb 1873 Climbach, Hessen - 16 Mar 1947) holding her first daughter, Ada Louise (Mrs. Warren Elliott), (13 May 1893 - 9 Sep 1973); standing by her is her first son, Heinrich Wilhelm (Henry William) (31 Dec 1890 Burlington IA - 15 Oct 1958). In the buggy at right is C. W. (Carl Wilhelm, or Charles W.) Scheihing (10 Dec 1865 Untertürkheim, Württemberg - 26 Mar 1947). The dog's name is unknown. Grandpa always had a dog or two around his farm.
