50-Year Buttons Given Masons (Source Unknown)
Two Okemah Masons have been presented 50-year buttons, it was announced Thursday, which indicate that they were members of the Mason lodge for at least 50 years.
The buttons, presented by Worshipful Master H. K. Maxwell as one of the last acts of this term in office, were believed the first presented local lodge members.
O. C. Gaston, former Okemah newspaper publisher and pesent justice of the peace, was awarded one button while William Bonifield, Okemah lumberman, was awarded the other.
Bonifield, slightly younger than Gaston, has been a member of the Mason order for slightly more than 56 years, members said. Gaston has belonged to the order for 51 years, placing his membership with the Okemah group in 1907, when he came here.
