CHOCTAW — Family and friends of a 17-year-old boy found dead in
a friend's bedroom buried him Thursday without any answers as to
how he died.
Jarrod Hunter Buck, a senior at Choctaw's Alternative
Academy, was found Sunday morning.
His pickup was found stripped and torched Wednesday morning
at Lake Stanley Draper. Investigators said they have not
determined whether there is a connection between the theft and
his death, which is under investigation.
Minister tells of last talk with mom
In the Choctaw teen's final conversation with his mother, he
said he loved her.
On Thursday, the Rev. Rick Sowell said Debbie Buck wanted
people to know that.
"She said tell kids they need to look at their parents and
say that — say 'I love you,' " Sowell said.
Mourners filled every seat, stood along the sanctuary's walls
and overflowed into the lobby of Choctaw Road Baptist Church.
Superintendent Jim McCharen said Buck attended Choctaw
schools most of his life and was on the high school wrestling
team.
McCharen said counselors and staff have been brought in to
help students and teachers.
"It really has a trickle-down effect, and you realize how
much a single student can affect an entire school district,"
McCharen said.
Buck's high school friends served as pallbearers. His
yearbook was open for friends to scribble messages — some as
simple as "you will be missed."
