MITCHELL Mary Sue Mitchell , nee Womack, was born 2/17/39 in
Choctaw, Oklahoma to John D. and Marie Womack. Mary Sue passed
away on July 22, 2001 after a brief but determined fight against
cancer. Mary Sue leaves behind her soul mate, dancing partner,
best friend and loving husband of 44 years, James F. Mitchell,
son Gregory Mitchell, wife Brooke Mitchell, daughter Jami Sue
Wiley, husband Rick Wiley, daughter Michelle Robertson and
husband Jim Robertson. Grammy to her angels, she leaves behind
six dear grandchildren, Kylie Mitchell, Jimmy Mitchell, Hunter
Mitchell, Ethan Watson, Madison Robertson and Sawyer Robertson.
Other survivors include mother-in-law, Tommie Mitchell, sister
Jean Brown, brother Edward Womack and a host of very special
nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her
parents, sister Pat Shelby, brothers Richard Womack and John
Womack. Mary Sue was our sunshine, our life of the party. She
always had kind words for others, smiles, laughter and hugs for
all. Mary Sue's cup was never empty. Her kind, loving spirit
inspired others and her home was full of warmth and love. Many
years ago Mary Sue picked up the game of golf and it was, along
with her family, her passion and love. She encouraged others to
pick up the game and she was infinitely patient with beginners.
So lucky was Mary Sue that she was privileged to have obtained
the elusive hole in one, three different times during her
golfing career, the University of Oklahoma Golf Course, Choctaw
Creek Golf Course and Broadmoore Golf Course. Mary Sue was
instrumental in helping organize the Choctaw Golf Association.
What started as a friendly competition among fellow golfers grew
into a means of benefiting metro area youth golfers with over
$50,000.00 given in college scholarships. She was known for her
annual August golf party, an end of the sum mer golf celebration
and fundraiser. Her enthusiasm was so infectious that people
realized they each could make a difference with their dollars
for area youth. Not even the May 3rd Tornado could keep her
down......the party was temporarily relocated in 1999 to
accommodate for rebuilding. An avid gardener, she was proud of
her flowers and rock garden, an activity that she shared and
fostered a love of with her grandbabies. She was diversified
before it was heard of with her interests ranging from
collecting classic MG's, calligraphy, reading and deep sea
fishing. It is a testament to her sweet nature and friendliness
that while hospitalized for the past 14 days she never had to
spend a moment alone. Family and friends eagerly took shifts
around the clock to sit with her and care for her. Toward the
end, as was usual, Mary Sue was most concerned with her family,
not herself, and she made it clear that she had no regrets in
life or in love. We would like to extend a very special thank
you to those who gave so much of their time the past thirty days
during this difficult struggle Rabina Wright, for the many
nights spent with Mary Sue so her family could rest, Ann Warzyn,
Sharon Martin, the Shelby, Askling, Denney, Wiley, Maynard and
Morrison families and others, the staff at Baptist Hospital 7
West, including Todd and Andrew with their special abilities to
calm her during the long nights. While her family cannot yet
make sense of her loss, we know that God needed a foursome and
she is at peace with the Lord, her Mother and other family and
friends. "We will be looking for your spirit in the sunset off
the shore at Key West, with a smile on all our faces." Services
to be held on Thursday, July 26, 2001 at St. Luke's Methodist
Church, 222 N.W. 15th, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma at 10:00 a.m.
under the direction of Eisenhour Funeral Home with interment to
follow at the Choctaw Elmwood Cemetery. Memorial donations in
memory of Mary, can be made to the Choctaw Golf Association
Scholarship Fund, c/o Delaine Baxter, or the American Cancer
Society.
