Pitzer, John Charles Sr., was born Jan. 8, 1918, in Hallett,
OK, to Florence Tidrow Pitzer and Roland G. Pitzer. He passed
away, March 12th, in Oaxaca, Mexico. As per his wishes, he was
cremated and his remains will be returned to OKC for burial.
John joined the Army the day after Pearl Harbor and served
with D Company of the 509th Parachute Infantry, with attachment
to Intelligence. After his retirement from the U.S. Postal
Service, he devoted his time and energy to his love of
archeology in Central and South America. John was in Mexico at
the time of his death picking up artifacts for the Sam Noble
Okla. Museum of Natural History to add to his donated
collection.
John was predeceased by his parents, grandson Kyle
Wackerly, and nephew Steve Evans.
He is survived by his son John
Pitzer of Colorado; daughter Sue Wackerly and husband
Jim of Yukon; grandson Brian Wackerly of OKC; sister Lois
Smith of OKC; sister June Evans of LA; and 2 nephews and 1
niece.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, at First Lutheran
Church, 1300 N. Robinson, at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers,
memorials may be made to the Sam Noble Okla. Museum of Natural
History, c/o O.U. Foundation, 100 Timberdale Rd., Norman, OK
73019, or First Lutheran Church for the organ restoration fund.
