Retired Trooper Jack Roberts, 79, Dies

Retired Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper, A. J. "Jack" Roberts,79, died Monday at Medicenter.

Services will be 11am Wednesday at Smith & Kernke Funeral Home with burial in Fairlawn Cemetery.

Roberts was born in Whitewright, Tex. and moved to Oklahoma in 107. He also was a  retired security officer for Fred Jones Manufacturing o. He joined the original highway patrol in 1937 and retired after 20 years. Before joining the patrol he was a member of the Oklahoma City Police Department and the state bureau of criminal identification.

Robert was a veteran of World War I, serving in the Army.

Survivors include his wife, Lucille S.; a brother _N. Dallas; and a sister, Thersa Simms, Fort Worth.

Mrs. Lucille Sakaly Roberts passed away on Saturday April 18, 1992, early in the morning at Four Seasons Nursing Home, where she has been in failing health for the last month. Mrs. Roberts was born on June 10, 1903 in Europe. At a very early age she joined her father here in Oklahoma City, and has been a life-long resident and career banking woman since she first worked as a courier for Stockyards Bank in the early 20's. From there she went to work for the Oklahoman National Bank in 1925. When this bank was merged with the Liberty National Bank, she joined the staff of Liberty National Bank on April 15, 1926 as a Correspondent Bank Accountant. She worked there until her retirement on June 1, 1968. After 42 years of service, she retired as supervisor of the Correspondent Bank Accounts. During this time she was a member of Sigma Tau Sorority. She was also named Woman of the Year at St. Joseph's Cathedral. She also served for many years as an accountant for Mrs. O'Mealey's Cafeterias.

She was preceded in death by her husband "Jack" Roberts who died in 1977. He was one of the first patrolmen in the newly organized Oklahoma Highway Patrol. After his retirement he continued to work for Fred Jones Ford Motor Co. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Frank Sakaly.

Mrs Roberts is survived by a sister, Anna Sakaly, and a brother John Sakaly , both of Oklahoma City. She is also survived by 2 nephews, both of Los Angeles, CA and 2 nieces, one of Del City, OK and one of Channelview, TX. She also leaves behind 7 great nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held at St. Joseph's Cathedral, Monday April 20, 1992 at 10 AM with graveside services at Fairlawn Cemetery immediately following.  Smith & Kernke Funeral Home.
