Jay Carl Sanders, born Feb. 27, 1930, in Oklahoma City, to Jessie and Leo Sanders, died peacefully at home Oct. 9, 1999 following a long and courageous battle with cancer.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Glory.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret Ann of the home; his sons, Jay of Brentwood, CA and Chris and his wife, Kim, and granddaughter Kennedy, of Edmond; aunts, Judy Fronterhouse and Lena Holloway and many other relatives and friends. Jay was a graduate of Classen High School and the University of Oklahoma, where he earned a Bachelors Degree in Business and was a member of Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity. After serving in the U.S. Air Force, he returned to OU and obtained a Masters Degree in Geology. For the past forty years, Jay pursued a career as a Home Builder and Developer. He was an active member of the Oklahoma Builders Assoc. and retired from the Air Force Reserve as a Lt. Colonel. Jay was a loving husband, a devoted father and grandfather, and will be remembered for his quiet strength and dignity, his intelligence and his love of life and learning. Jay will be missed by his family and by all who knew him. Memorials may be made to St. Eugene's School or Mercy Hospice.

Funeral Services will be held Tuesday at 11:00 am at St. Eugene's Catholic Church with interment following at Memorial Park Cemetery. Smith & Kernke Funeral Home.
