Leo C. Sanders was born in Union City, Oklahoma (south of El
Reno), April 2, 1894. He died in Oklahoma City on December 22,
1980, his wife, Jessie, having predeceased him.
Leo C. Sanders died Dec 22 at Bellview Nursing Home. Born at
Union City, OK, April 2, 1894 and later moved to Verden with his
father and 2 younger brothers. He worked his way through college
at University of Oklahoma, graduating with a degree in Civil
Engineering in 1979. A veteran of WW I and after discharge
entered into the heavy construction business. Among his many
engineering and building achievements for his work during the
year years of downtown OKC on buildings such as the YMCA, Post
Office, Ramsey Tower, Skivin Tower and ____ Skirvin Hotel.
He also elevated the Santa Fe Railroad through downtown OKC and
completed in in relation to the Grand River Dam, Fort Supply Dam
was the prim contractor on the Douglass Assembly Pant in OKC
during WW II.
Attended St. Luke's Methodist Church. Member of the Acacia
Fraternity, 32nd Degree Mason, a member of the OKC Gold &
Country Club.
His wife Jessie preceded him in death.
Survived by a daughter Glory
Ann, one son, Jay C. Sanders;
2 grandchildren, Christopher John Sanders and Jay Carl Sanders,
Jr. all of OKC.
Services will be Tues 2.30 pm Hahn Cook, Street & Draper Chapel.
Burial in
Memorial Park.
His obituary in the December 23, 1980, Oklahoman
says
Among his many engineering and building accomplishments, he
will be remembered for his work during the early years of
downtown Oklahoma City and buildings such as the YWCA, Post
Office, Montgomery Wards, Ramsey Tower, Skirvin Tower and tunnel
to the Skirvin Hotel.
