Najeeba " Nellie " Shadid. Our beloved sister and aunt fell asleep in the Lord on July 30, 1995. She was born March 12, 1901 in Jedeidet Marjayoun, Lebanon to Ayesh and Shawaka Shadid.

She was preceded in death by 4 brothers and a sister. She has one sister, Nabeeha "Nevada" Andrews, surviving her. Miss Shadid immigrated to America in 1921 to Ellis Island, NY. She became a citizen of this country a few years later and there has never been a more loyal American. Her favorite song was "God Bless America" and she insisted on it being sung at every family gathering.

Miss Shadid never married, but lived with and helped raise her sister's four children and their children, who consider themselves fortunate to have had her for their "other mother".

She is survived and dearly loved by her numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.

Her Prayer of Mercy service will be 7:00 p.m. Wednesday and the funeral service will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m., at St. Elijah Orthodox Church. Services offered by Fr. Basil McMurry. Pallbearers will be Mike, Tony and Chip Kouri, David Andrews, Don Andrews and Jeff Johnson. Honorary Pallbearers will be Dr. Tommy F. Shadid , Dr. Buddy A. Shadid , Dr. Edward A. Shadid , Charles A. Shadid and Don Shadid .

In tribute to our Aunt, we must say there wasn't anything she couldn't do or at least try and was a great inspiration to all of us. She touched each of us in a special way and her legacy will live on through us and in our memory forever. We w ill miss her profoundly. There will never be another like her. Contributions in her memory may be made to St. Elijah's Flowers That Do Not Wither Fund.
