Years of faithful service for the Church ended Tuesday for
Mrs. Margaret Tracey, who died after a short illness at her
home, 112 N.E. 7th St. Mrs. Tracey, a daily communicant, was a
pioneer who came to Oklahoma City with her husband, less than
one year after the opening in '89. Her first work for the Church
here, was in the alter society of St. Joseph's, whose zealous
member she was until the establishment of Corpus Christi Parish,
when her home place was absorbed in the new parish, and she then
became a member of that alter society.
As Margaret Haley, daughter of Andrew Haley and Catherine
McDermott Haley, she was born in Montreal, Canada, on May 20,
1962. She was married there to Thomas Tracey and came in a few
years to Oklahoma City, Her husband a contractor, died in
1932.
The C. D. of A., of which Mrs. Tracey's daughter, Mrs. C. E.
LaMonte, is a member conducted Rosary service on Thursday night
at McAtee and Watts. The general Rosary service followed.
Solemn Requiem was celebrated in St. Joseph's on Friday with
Rev. Albert Brousseau, O. S. B., Celebrant, and Rev. Harry
Cabell and Rev. Sylvester Luecke, deacons. Father J. J. Walde,
delivered the sermon. Both Father Brousseau and Father Cabell
are nephews of Mrs. Tracey.
Interment under direction of McAtee and Watts took place in
the old family plot at Fairlawn by the side of her husband and
four children, Albert, George, Lucille and Thomas.
Survivors are five children, 12 grandchildren, and two great
grandchildren. Her children are
Mrs. Catherine LaMonte,
Oklahoma City, Mrs. Mary Metcalf, Grove, Oklahoma,
James Tracey, John Tracey,
Oklahoma City, and Mrs. Ellen Welsh, Shawnee. A brother and a
sister, Ed Haley and Mrs. Mary Jane Brousseau, also survive
her. Both of Oklahoma City. Pallbearers were Ed J. Delaney,
Dr. D. W. Gillick, L. A. Bachle, Jos. P. Roetzel, Leo F. Ederer
and George Futrell.
