Lennis Lorraine McMillan Kolb
, passed away Dec. 25, 2009 with her family around her, after a battle
with cancer. She was born to Theodore Lewis McMillan and Mae Ruth
Vaughan Jan. 10, 1922 in Jester, Greer County, Okla. Her life was
devoted to teaching elementary children and she met her husband Vernon
Louis Kolb at O.U. as they were working on their master's degrees. They
married Feb. 19, 1955. They moved to Tulsa and she taught 3rd and 4th
grade until her retirement in 1982. She was teacher of the year in 1960.
She loved to sew, crochet, and read and study the Bible. She was active
in church; singing in the choir and participating in Bible study groups
after retiring. Lennis was a member of the Asbury Methodist Church when,
in 2008, they moved to Edmond to be closer to family members. She was
also caring and helpful to her family.
Survivors include her husband Vernon of the
home; niece, Janna McCollom and nephew James Steward; grandnieces
Courtny Steward and Sarah Morgan; grandnephews Wesley Morgan, Luke
McCollom and Grant McCollom.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister
Mae Anne McMillan Steward
and brother-in-law Roland Steward. Public visitation will be held from
12-9 PM Thursday, December 31st and 8 AM-9 PM Friday, January 1st.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on January 2, 2010 at the
Matthews Funeral Home Chapel, with interment to follow at
Memorial Park
Cemetery in Oklahoma City. Services are under the direction of Matthews
Funeral Home, Edmond, OK.
