Karon Virginia Whitaker Flippo passed away peacefully in her Edmond home, surrounded by family and friends, on September 8, 2006 after a courageous four year battle with breast cancer. Karon was born in Alvarado, Texas on Nov. 21, 1949 to Clifford Leon and Frances Jo Whitaker. She moved to Midwest City with her family in 1961 and attended Star Spencer High School where she met and married her life long love, Sam L. Flippo , in 1965. She was a loving mother and wife and was deeply devoted to Christ.

She is survived by her husband Sam Flippo of the home, son Brian and wife Lacey and grandson Jett of Edmond, son Jonathan of Edmond, mother and step-father Leon and Frances Toney, of Choctaw, sister and brother-in-law Eddie and Elaine Spencer of Pink, Oklahoma, brother and sister-in-law Sam L. and Pam Whitaker of Edmond and brother Randy Toney of Tecumseh and many loving friends and relatives.

Karon was preceded in death by her father, Clifford Whitaker. Karon was full of life and had two successful careers, one in health insurance administration and one as office manager for B R I Imports, a car dealership in Oklahoma City, owned by her and her husband since 1970. Karon was active in sports car racing in her 20's and in 1975, driving her beautiful silver Porsche, she was the first Oklahoma woman to win a National Championship title in Auto Cross competition. Karon had a zest for life and enjoyed traveling and spending time with her many relatives and friends. Her passing will leave a tremendous vacancy in our hearts that will never be filled. She is now with Jesus and her daddy and will never suffer again.

Our thanks to Dr. Kanaa and his staff for their caring treatment during Karon 's illness, and also to the nurses and doctors at Mercy Health Center and Mercy Hospice. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Susan Koman Breast Cancer Foundation. Darling, you finally have those wings that you earned and you are undoubtedly the most beautiful angel in heaven. A memorial service will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 12, 2006, at Crossings Community Church, 14600 N. Portland Ave, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
